Strange Noise

Question, Kota keeps slamming his teeth together. He has his adult teeth so I'm not sure why he does it. I'll walk to the kitchen and he will follow behind me and he will open his mouth and close it hard slamming his teeth. I looked in his mouth and I don't see anything.. he was in the kitchen doing it as well. It's really loud.. it's not chattering or anthing just like a Clunk Clunk. Anyone know a reason why?

Not sure.. he was done with his toy and he was right behing me and I heard clack clack. When I looked at him he stopped doing it. I caught him doing it again when he was following me and I turned my head and he was slamming his bottom jaw to his top jaw really hard. Almost like taking your bottom jaw and moving it fast to your top jaw. The only thing I can think of is maybe his jaw is rather sore because he doesn't stop chewing things (raw hide, tennis balls and or toys)? It's strange.. unless his teeth are still coming in then maybe.

Hmmm, when I taught Sugar to speak, sometimes she speaks "silently"...kinda like your describing. Could it be something like that? A silent bark?

My dogs will slam their teeth together loudly once for food. Usually, after licking loudly. It is different from the clicking sound they also make.

I love that!! Lots of dogs do it and its totally normal. For me, I usually take it as a sign of excitement. We call it clapping, but that's just to make it sound cute. I would be happy that your dog is drivey and is showing you!

So its like he is barking but no noise? Sadie does that, not as often as barking with noise though

My girl does that too. I think of it as a bit of sassiness (my airedales would all do that). She started doing it in response to me snapping my fingers to let her know that she was about to get into trouble if she kept doing what she was doing... (like getting too fresh with the cat)
It is the only "talking back" that is acceptable to me as they are usually doing it in fun and still mind. :dsrazz:

I think it's a excited thing.. I bought Kato a new toy and I took it away to see what he would do. He ran to me doing it. He was wicked excited and the rate his tail was going he was sweeping the floor.
