I've noticed this before about dogs, but it just happened the other day and really cracks me up.

When Geyser and I are training and playing, I'll slap her sides pretty well, especially when we're tugging or I'm telling her what a great job she just did. She loves it. If we're tugging, it revs her up more; if it's a kudos, she just puts her ears back and smiles.

OK, so the other day, she committed a major transgression. I don't hit her very often, but on occasion, well, sometimes you gotta . So, I came up behind her and smacked her on her butt, as I was telling her what an ass**** she is, and scolded her but good. Now, the intensity of the slap wasn't even near what I do when we're playing, but of course, she acted like I'd hit her with a 2x4. Then she went into her "I'm just a poor little puppy...don't be mad at me," routine, and then, since I was giving her the Evil Eye and Cold Shoulder, she decided to take herself into the front room and lie quietly on her rug . Eventually, she came into the kitchen and crept out onto the back screened in porch. I just kept doing whatever I was doing at the kitchen counter. The nextdoor dogs were taken out for their walk, which usually has her going into hysterics of "MOM...MOM!!! They're out! Can we go out! Can we? Please Please PLEASE!!!!!" What I heard were these little, dainty woofs, almost subvocal, so I went out to see what was up. I really cracked up when I saw it was the neighbor and his dogs and how much she was restraining herself in announcing their appearance.

I let it go on for about 30 minutes, then relented and told her she was OK and petted her a bit, and then her world was fine once again and she was her regular, happy, exuberant self.

She's the same way about injuries. When she hurts herself, as she did today, somehow cutting and scraping the upper pad on her wrist, she doesn't even notice it, other than to lick the blood off a bit. No limping, nothing. But, the second I put a sock on it to protect it once I'd cleaned it up and put some stuff on it, suddenly, she couldn't walk without limping and holding her foot up, etc etc etc. Took the sock off to replace it with a small bandage secured with some vet wrap, just to be a little more secure, and suddenly, she's little miss clingy/dependent/I-need-my-mom. I can't wait to find out what she's like when she gets spayed next month

Such is the life living with a drama queen.

They are so funny! Just wait until she gets back from real surgery. She will be pitiful at least until dinner. Save the drama for your mama!

How old is Geyser now? I am weighing the pros and cons of spay at different ages...

Thats funny! When Merlin gets in trouble he goes to his crate and pouts for about 1 min, when he notices no one is in there to give him attention he comes back to where we are in the house. Silly puppies

She just turned 19 months old...I wanted her to be at least 14 months before spaying, for the full benefit of the hormones during development, and ended up having to go thru two heats the way her timing worked out. Now, she has bosoms

She kind of got into trouble again last nite ...wouldn't settle on her bed in our bedroom (she is allowed on the bed, except when we're actually sleeping, as my spousal unit finds it too crowded...). She wanted to sleep with us, with her poor little hurt foot . I finally had enough of her nonsense and put her in the only crate we have left, in the kitchen (double whammy for her, as it's in another room ). She was quiet for about 45 min, the set up the "please let me out, I promise I'll stay on my bed" routine, whining and yipping, and then barking when that wasn't convincing enough ("are you listening?"). When I'd had enough of that, went and covered the crate with a sheet...silence for the rest of the nite .

Our routine is that when Dan gets up in the AM, she gets to join me on the bed. So, I let her out this morning and invited her up, and she stayed glued to my side .

They are so darn funny...

What a riot!!!! They are funny. Thalie, who is such a goody goody and dosnt get in trouble often but when she does, she really puts on the sulk poor me routine. Sadie... well she is the tough girl and just looks at you.

Well, Sadie is used to the routine, I'd guess . The ol' stink eye probably doesn't even phase her.

So after two cycles they grow teats? Xena is actually acting like she may be going into heat and she is only 7 months old!!! I hope i am wrong. Goodness knows, the fewer the better...but I do want her bones to be developed.

Well, keep in mind here that my n is one, in terms of experience. With Geyser, during her first heat, she developed breasts, but they went back down to nothing afterwards. After the 2nd heat, I was hoping they'd go away again, but they din't. The most noticeable ones are the last ones near her woowoo . (They're nothing like the dugs bitches get who've had litters... )
