my parents basset , we think, ate some rat poison on Friday. She went to work with my father and some fell out of the rafters and she may have gotten into it. No one saw her but the bag was found on the ground. She was here yesterday and seemed perfectly fine. But early this am around 2 she wanted to go out so when my father let her out, she was out for a bit, she usually comes in by herself, he looked for her and she was laying in the grass and very lethargic.

He took her to the emergency clinic and first they said tumor, but took xrays and it was clear. So they focused on the poison. My mom had called the poison clinic on Ga ( i think) and they said it can take weeks sometimes for the effects to show. Sootie is at the clinic now getting mega doses of Vit K (If I remember that correctly) and will be there till tomorrow.

I wont know any more until later.

I am so sorry to hear that! I did not know that the reaction could be so delayed! Poor thing, I hope the treatment works quicky!

I would get her on some Milk Thistle and SAMe when she gets home. Hope she's okay.

Milk and Thistle? What does that do. Should I have the vet give it to her or let the vet do their thing?

I hope she is okay too. My parents are older and Sootie was probably going to be their last dog. Ugh, so hard to think about.

Milk Thistle is an herb used to support Liver function. Along with SAMe. Can help to regenerate liver tissue. Both come (separately) in pill form, from Vitamin/Health Stores like GNC, or even your local drug store. (I wouldn't go to Wally world for them tho.)
Because of the delay in getting her to the Vet after ingestion, my concern would be the damage to her liver by whatever amount of the poision her organs have tried to filter from her system.
Hope she makes it.

Sootie passed away. It wasnt the poison. the vet believes she had a tumor in her brain. A few months ago she had a bunch of fatty tumors removed from her back, eye, and a few other places. They biopsied as fine, but I have no idea if it had anything to do with that.

Juts talking to mom. She said Sootie has been overly lethargic over the past few weeks. But being a basset they are quiet to begin with.

A very hard loss, regardless of the cause. We never have them long enough.

I am so sorry. I know how devastating rat poisoning can be. I hope that she pulls through OK. Vit K can do WONDERS!

Ironically, I attended a seminar hosted by CoEquin a few years ago. They rated various joint supplements on accuracy of what it said on the label vs. what was actually in the bottle. Spring Valley carried by WalMArt was in the top 3. I was floored - but pretty happy.

Such a sad story, whatever the cause of her leaving.

I use to buy Spring Valley brand at Walmart, but locally they have been replacing that brand with Equate products. I don't know where they're from (China?), so I don't bother to shop for supplements there anymore.
