Dutch Shepherd Forum

Just for kicks and giggles.....Came to mind that there are quite a few Dutch Sheps on this forum whose names start with a "Z". I've used Z names for a lot of my GS and DS dogs in the past; Zip, Zophie, Zax, Zydeco, Zena. I just happen to like that, guessing because Z is in my German maiden name, who knows.

Here from what I recall we have Zip (my girl), Zodiac, Zane, Zeva.....
are there more?

Had a GSD named Zaphra, but no Z DS yet. (My sisters middle name is Zee, so maybe I'll name a DS after her.)

I have a Zane!

He's my first pet not named something absurdly literal (Goldie the goldfish, Tiger the cat, Mushroom the cat with mushroom shaped spots) or after an ancient god or historical figure (Zeus, Hades, Cleo, Nero, Houdini, Walter (Whitman, the lady cat), Prince and Duke). Probably because I'm not the one who named him!

I have Ziva - but you got that, just spelled differently.

I can't think of any other Z's that I have had....except for a long term boarder named Zeanon who we called "Z."

Zinnia! It wasn't a dutchie though, it was a human.

Zodiac's entire litter had Z names From what I know there was a Zoey, Zelda (now our Zodiac), and Zena. Not sure what the male pups names were but they were Z's as well.

In Holland there is a nice Dutchie named Zebbe

He is the dog I fell in love with when searching for DS breeders! Funny story ( Denise has to kill some time anyway...)
After getting to know a female DS in a "dog-hotel" where I helped out aged 15, I looked up everything I could, even in Holland the breed is rare. Couple of years later, I must have been about 23, I went to a "young dogs day" organised by the breed club. At home I had the picture of Zebbe that I posted above set as the background for my PC. Walking on the terrain I regognised Zebbe immediately poked my friend and said "That's ZEBBE!"
Zebbe's owner looked up as she heard her dogs name, smiled and said "yes, this is Zebbe"

Now his owner, Dineke, is one of my best friends, and we (amongst other things) did a avalanche course in Austria together. Me, Dineke and 2 strong healthy male DS (Dingo and Zebbe) in a very small room with bunkbeds for a week. Those dogs are so great, they looked each other up and down and decided it was no use fighting as they were both just as strong and it would just piss us off. One was crated in one corner (Dingo) the other (Zebbe) was tied to the heating by a leash if we were out of the room, if we were in the room he was offleash. By the end of the week we had splitted the terrain in two, there was a long road we walked every morning, Dingo had left of the road, Zebbe the right side. They never even tried to get close and confront

Anyway, Zebbe has great charachter, I used his son for our 2nd litter

So Zebbe is not mine, but I see him every now and than, still one of my favourites He's 12 now, still crazy, just not that fast anymore

Nice story, Marj! Zebbe is a good looking DS, solid built. Looks thick through the chest. Funny, I had reserved that name, Zeb, for a future male way in the future.

he's a very compact built dog, I prefer mine a bit less "well fed" hihi But he looks solid even when he is a bit lighter
