Finding a Trainer in my area?

Post by KellaA+dog6 »

Does anyone know a trainer in the South Santa Clara County(Calif.) or North Monterey county area who is familiar with DS/Belgian Malinois? Since Kella is finally coming out of her "Timid" shell, I want to see what all she is capable of. She even gave a deep Warning bark when my son (not living at home) came in unexpectedly. Gave a more questioning bark when she saw who it was, followed by going up to him for pets on her own without slinking around unsure first. All Firsts for her. She also called off from the deer at the back fence 2 days ago.
This seems like a good time to start a more formal round of training. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Tell us about yourself: I live in North Monterey County, CA with my husband, three step kids, one gorgeous and wonderful Dutch Shepherd and a whole bunch of livestock type animals. The humans are into sustainable farming, the dog is into chasing deer and digging up gophers. My day job is an Operations Supervisor at Santa Cruz Regional 911. One of these days, I'm going to get another DS.

Dave Delessigues in Aromas is a great guy. He run a few Sch clubs in the area. He has a website but I don't have it on this phone. The best way to get hold of him is by phone 831-663-0459. Heck of a nice guy who did good things with my neurotic DS.

Thank you. I have looked at his website, and thought he sounded like a good prospect. Since the little bit of my schutzhund experience was 3 decades ago and all GSD at the time, I don't have the local contacts for a wider range of breeds. ( I don't think Kella is a likely Schutzhund/Protection dog, but would like an experienced opinion. She's gotten to where she really needs work) I havn't seen any sheep at the ranch where I trained my border collie quite a while back. And, since he is in his 80s now, not sure he is still with us. Otherwise, I'd be looking at herding again. She also hasn't shown an interest in water more than a foot deep, so dock diving is probably out. ( scrambled out of my mothers pool within seconds of my being able to get her to come in with me, and didn't want to come back in.) So I will go ahead and give Dave a call, and go from there. Thanks again.
