Geyser is sick...

I know I haven't been around much lately...sigh...it's always something

We lost our power in a nasty storm for 4 days during the 100 degree heat wave here; tho the heat wave is over, we're still getting plenty of upper 90s and low 100s (I don't know how you Texans and Louisanans do it! I can barely stand to live here in VA in the summer, let alone further south!).

Then, some of my meds got messed up (never a good plan  ) That's been fixed...many would say "yay!"

Geyser had a sonagram of her heart; her heart is fine, so that's not the source of her exercise intollerance. Next is another consult with the internist...

But, now she goes and gets sick on me. I feel so bad for her. Vomiting and constant diarrhea...when she was so empty and started chucking up this nasty brown stuff (way past the bile stage), then her tummy started making noise you could hear across the room, called my vet and took her in yesterday PM.

Fever, Xray showed lots of gas...very inflammed GI tract. So, subcutaneous fluids, anti-nausea injection and some antibiotics and I brought her home. She's had nothing to eat since Monday nite (she refused food yesterday, even all the stuff she loves that I make when she's got loose stool days; and then, verbotten by the vet in case we need to do more testing).

Since she's improved, she's been allowed water since late this afternoon, and tomorrow we return for a barium series (to see if there's an obstruction) and a blood test for pancreatitis.

I HATE it when they're sick...and I can't give her anything to eat, the poor girl. Feeling better, she would like to have something to eat, please! She watches me fixing our food, and why no tidbits for the good girl? She watches me feeding the cats, and gets all excited...I"m next for sure!

My poor baby...

Poor Geyser and you!! Odin, Kai and I wish her well!! and you too!! It's terrible to see them sick and they can't tell you what's wrong.
That must have been some pretty loud gas sounds to hear from across the room. :eew:
Wishing your :binkybaby: a speedy recovery and hopefully she won't eat you next!!

Ugh. Poor thing. I had one girl once, who ate something dead. Literally. She got bacterial inneritis (sp) from that, and boy, I knew where the term "sick as a dog" came from. They can be so dramatic when things go wrong. Hope that G feels better soon, and glad that you too got straightened out. (your meds, that is)
I do feel bad for all of you who are getting heat waves and temps that you are not used to. We are currently pretty pleased with our mid to high 90's, because last year around this time, we were in the low 100's, (for 30 days straight, actually) all the way up to 113 real temp. I do not know how we survived that, but we mostly did, grouchy and grumpy but we made it. So for all of those who are flooding or cooking: my sympathy. :(

Well, we started off with some bloodwork this morning, and I was very proud of Geyser for how good she was for the draw.

I've found a system that works with her. She likes to get up and sit on a chair (my vet has these benches so you're right next to your dog). So I have her sit up with me and I hold her head while two other techs do the draw. Geyser shook, but stayed seated and endured.

Then, since Geyser was doing so much better over night, my vet said we'd just take an Xray, and if she looked good enough, we wouldn't have to do the barium series. Yay.

Xray was good; significant improvement, and no blockage. Bloodwork was negative for pancreatitis.

So, the current theory is that her GI tract just got all riled up about something, which we don't know what that is. She's of course on a bland diet, but so far, she's kept down the water and little bit of food she ate. We're just hoping that whatever it is, goes away and stays away.

It was a good day

Glad to hear there is improvement with G, and tolerance for what the vet had to do : )

Keeping my fingers crossed (Sugar has her toes crossed) for you guys for a speedy recovery and that it doesn't come back...what ever it was/is.

Wow! Lots of stuff going on! I'm glad you got your power back. I can't imagine those temps and no AC!

I'm glad that Geyer is feeling better too and that you got to skip the test. Hopefully the bug has moved on and she'll feel 100% soon.

Just kind of out of the blue thinking, has there been any test for Leptospirosis done?

Nope. My vet thought the symptoms pointed pretty clearly to either pancreatitis or a blockage. I'm glad it was neither  , and she's completely recovered.
