New Rescue...

I have just rescued this pretty girl. I believe she is a young DS. I have been told she may be a pure Mal, though, or even a greyhound mix. I was hoping someone or one's may give me some insight. She is still goofy on her feet, her teeth haven't come in all the way yet, and, she still has a lot of that puppy/ young adult tenativeness. We've made leaps and bounds since Friday when I brought her home with her confidence levels. I picked her up from animal control in GA. She shows no signs of physical abuse. I think she was neglected though. She's doing great here. Thanks for any help.... Picture is attached below..

I'm not sure how old she is exactly. At first, I thought 1-1.5 years. But, after spending some time with her and really checking her out, she may be closer to 10-11 mos. I've owned Germans forever; but, I am not sure how these guys grow and mature. She really seems to have not grown in to her legs, or much coordination for that matter. I don't think her previous owner knew what to do with her. Her obedience is going really well. She likes the water, which is good for me since we dock dive, and she took a puppy sleeve tonight. All is well, and I am soooo glad I put up the fight for her! Thanks for your help.

Looks dutch to me. Georgia has been a hotbed for DS rescues in the last year or so. About 3 years ago, I was contacted by someone who's "breeder" had fallen on hard times and was getting evicted from his home. Apparently the "breeder" had 19 puppies on the ground and was looking to get rid of them. On behalf of NADSR, I agreed to take them all, have them fixed and find them homes. A few days later, I was informed that the guy had "gotten rid" of all of them and even got up to $200 for some of the pups. Obviously, they didn't go to the most discriminate homes. Since then, the breed has been showing up in GA shelters on a regular basis. Amazing (and sad) how one person can influence the rescue rate of an entire breed.

Sounds like your new pup won the puppy lotto!
