I haven't been on here in a while. Everything has been great with Duke, Until recently. He used to follow me any where and come whenever he was called. We don't think it to be a good idea to leave him inside when we can't take him with us. So, I bought a 12x12 kennel to put him in, Now after a few times in the kennel. He associates going outside with, kennel time instead of potty, running and playing. Now I have to pick him up and carry him outside and once out he is just waiting to go back inside. Even after trying hard to show him that we are outside to play and do our usual fun stuff. I want my dog back and don't know what to do.

So what you're saying is he hates his kennel and now won't even go outside with you because he thinks you're just going to lock him up?

So...take him outside a lot and let him back in with you, without kenneling him ;) Then when you do (kennel him) do it for short periods of time at first, and let him back in after a while. Give him a treat when he goes into the kennel, or a toy or a bone of whatever makes him happy, to make the kennel time better for him. And don't let him win the battle. All dogs can learn to kennel and actually learn to enjoy it, but it might take some gentle persistence on your behalf, as well as understanding the dogs point of view (at first)

I'd even expand on Judith's great suggestions...you need to create very high value for him for being in the kennel. Think of it as an outdoor crate...except I seem to remember that you may be a person who doesn't like using a crate indoors? thus the kennel

Anyway, get the DVD of Crate Games, and use the same technique with the outdoor kennel.

If you are interested in watching the video, but don't want to buy it, check out http://www.bowwowflix.com. Its a lot like Netflix, but its is only dog related DVDs. There are a ton of great ones on there and you can rotate through as the need arises.
