Wobblers

A "non-genetic" daughter of mine has a Mastiff pup, 10 months old, with Wobblers. Anyone here have any personal experience with this? The pup can't get up at all on his own and I fear the outcome will be very bad.
Specialist has already said surgery is not an option for this boy. Started on Pred and hope it will help.

Have they consulted acupuncture? An online friend of mine had a 8-ish year rotweiller with wobbler`s. Acupuncture helped a lot.
I`ll go check what else helped.
Edit:
ok here it is:
-watch his weight: more weight means more weight for the sick spine
-lift up his food and water dish
-spare him form jumping (up the furniture etc)
-take him swimming
-swap collar for harness

Adoptive "old-man" dobe developed it. Heartbreaking to see. Especially in only a pup!
At least Durango was old, rather than put him through a lot of treatments that maybe wouldn't help, we made the choice to sadly and gently say goodbye. He gave us that "look" that said, "Please, I'm done."
Olie's suggestions are all valid, to try and help, but really, not sure what else to offer than sympathy.
