I'm such a rule breaker...

So I never allow Stella on the couch (and she never tries) but I've been sick the past few days and felt bad for her laying on the hard wood floor so I could reach to pet her.... She wouldn't jump up so I picked her up and plopped her butt up there with me :) and remember I am not a dog person and would never allow one on the furniture..... If my bed wasn't full of kids I'd probably let her up there too! She's just so cuddly! We are giving my son's rabbit to my step daughter when she comes for x-mas break so after that I'll get a bed for her so she can sleep upstairs with us! So I'll have more vacuuming to do... oh well. She doesn't jump up unless I put her there either so that works.... Crazy how much cuddling with your dog can relax you!

You are on a slippery slope, my dear

I've posted this before, but you haven't seen it, so it's worth reposting (no idea who wrote it, but I love it)

DOG RULES

1.The dog is NOT allowed in the house
2.Okay, the dog is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms
3.Alright, the dog is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture
4.Well, okay, the dog can get on the OLD furniture only
5.Fine, the dog is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep on the bed
6.Okay, the dog is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation
7.The dog can sleep on the bed anytime, but not under the covers
8.Okay, the dog can sleep under the covers, but by invitation only
9.Fine, the dog can sleep under the covers every nite
10.Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the dog

HA. I always had a rule, No dogs on bed or couch, well, until my daughter started letting Thalie up on the couch, or we have a bad thunderstorm and Sadie is scared. I always let my Basset Hounds on the bed, well, their legs are what............2 inches!!!! When I got my own dog, a pit/ Rotti, with never ending legs, that is when the bed sharing stopped, I had the tiny corner and she had the whole bed. Now my girls sleep on their own beds ( not Sadie because she thinks ripping them up is more fun then sleeping on them) Next to my bed on the floor. My daughter just love snuggling with Thalie and I figure she deserves the couch too. Sadie....not yet....... her pot is waiting on the stove.

This is hilarious. When we were in hotels this summer my SO would let Ellie on the bed and I told him we'd be in trouble when we had a home again with a bed of our own. But surprisingly she hasn't tried to join us on our bed in our new place.

Oh boy.... this is sad..... but true! It's funny because people who know me were shocked that I even got a dog let alone a house dog! Honestly I should of gotten a dutchie years ago.... she's a blast! The sweetest thing ever.... oh and she smells like a muffin which makes me want to cuddle her even more! I bought this spray on waterless "shampoo" at petsmart the brand is Pet Head and I use it between baths (once a week) every time I brush or pet her I can smell it..... scratch n sniff Stella!

Ha, ha, last night I thought about the dog rules. (Just so you know, we are currently at #6.)

Sugar will start out in her bed on the floor beside our bed, and sometime early in the morning she will wake up and walk up to and around the bed, waiting to be invited up with us. We always do. (Even with our eyes closed, we can "feel" her staring at us.)

Last night, she was sleeping upstairs with the boy and then came down in the middle of the night. I heard her walk up to our bed, then around it, then she let out the softest (and I have to say cutest) little "woof". I ignored it, and again, the softest little "woof" came out of her mouth. My husband is the biggest softy, so of course he invites her right up. First time she has verbally asked to be invited up.

So, does it count if she "asks" to be invited up? :g_wink:

You're gonna be at 7 before you know it! (mostly when you're not around to be asked  )

Hahahaha! I'm holding steady at #5!

and at least she asked!

Stella will only get on the couch during the day when invited which is all the time now because the kids think this is awesome..... but any time I come down in the middle of the night there she is all stretched out on the couch with her head on one of the pillows... It's okay though she's been super dog to us so she's earned her place on the couch!

*lol* yeah... We don't really keep the dogs off the furniture, here. Back when it was just me and my dogs, before a man or child on the scene, I lived and worked on a horse farm, my apartment was up above the barn, what used to be an observation room for the indoor arena and was converted into living space for the help. Wellll, it got reallllllly cold at night during the winter. You've heard the expression "3 dog night" ? Well I had all 3 dogs! (And 2 cats,) *lol* I called them my "bio-blankets"

They always knew, though, that while it was okay to be on the couches and bed at home, when we were visiting elsewhere, they wouldn't try it unless invited.

When I was a child, my first dog, Heidi, (who we got as a puppy from a neighbor who had two GSDs that had a litter, I was 7...) was never allowed on the couch. Which she respected, during the day. *lol* At night, at some while after everyone was abed, we'd hear her toenails on the hardwood floor downstairs, then the sound of air being pushed out of cushions as she claimed the couch. *click click click click... Foomph!*
Then, as soon as an alarm clock went off in the morning, *scribbity-scrabble, click click click click* as she'd vacate the couch and go to her dog bed, where she'd look up innocently at whoever happened to come down the stairs. Like "what? I was here the whole time?". *lol* she even had the grace to look sheepish if you pointedly swept dog hair off the couch and then looked at her.

Maiyou, our current dog, (12 years old, now, the youngest of my 3 in my signature photo, now last dog standing,) gets free choice of beds and couch, so long as she relocates if a person wants the seat. And she gets some snuggle-time when hubby-to-be and I come to bed, we often both read for an hour or more before settling for sleep, but then when the lights go out she relocates to her dog-bed at the foot of our bed.
