did anyone catch the dog show today? I love watching it. I am bummed that they didnt show the Basset Hound, they never place anyway . In the Herding group the Malinois was second !! I was pretty happy about that. He was a beautiful! Stocky and built, very small ears and went to the middle of his head though, small like Thalies ears. Not that Ive seen many Mals lately but I thought they had big dopey ears like their brindle counterparts.

From what I've seen, that's the look that AKC bred mals are starting to go towards. The ears are smaller and the tail is straight. Compared to Odin though, all the mals have small ears. We were just commenting on how large Odin's ears are compared to some of the malinois he hangs out with. Here's a picture from the kennel today. He's staying with his old foster mom while we visit relatives and transport an ABMC/R dog.

how wonderfully real time - love it! and so lucky you are to have foster mom nearby. what i would give for that comfort!
and yes, dog shows always are exciting when our breeds appear. i did think that was an unremarkable-looking mal though, but did not keep it from placing well!. ABMCR has much more distinguished and/or beautiful ones to adopt.

Holy cow, what a great looking bunch !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the black. The Mal in the show didnt have as much black. I guess, personally , I like how these guys look much beter, mostly in the head, his body was beautiful, but the tiny ears......... OH well, I cant do anything about it but complain

Yeah the girls here are all UKC registered from French Lines, so they don't have as much of the "show" look, but there's still a difference.

I just picked up a 7 month old mal for ABMC/R and she's an itty bitty thing. Long hips, tiny ears, and a real narrow head. Her father was from an AKC breeding kennel and she looks different from even the ladies here. She's gorgeous, but it's a totally different look.

I saw the Mal also in the show and thought the same thing, Lisa.

Lovely broad head on the malinois. I liked seeing that they left (this time at least) the snipey heads and weird flowing stop shapes. But the ears, yes, were a bit disturbing in relation to the head. Like little horns, sticking at the side if his broad skull. And yet, I liked the dog and it was good to see him place second (though I would have preferred first in group, since I do not do a lot of hair and the bearded collie was...well...hairy)
