I was just looking through some flyers and saw a sale on laser pointers for your dog or cat, showing the benefits of your pet getting exercise if you buy this product!!! :yernuts:

Oh those things... I bought one for my guys thinking I would train them to target the lazer and touch or pick up what ever I was pointing at.. within 10 seconds I had them chasing it all over the house and had it stalking them, it's been put away ever since lol. I'm not mature enough to use one :P

There's an old post on here about laser lights and the DS. Generally, not a good idea. I concur. At least with my guy, it was a few minutes of great fun followed by tons of conditioning to counter-act anything "flashy" he saw thereafter. And then he associated certain things with flashy things as well. (Aluminum foil reflects light; knew the noise the drawer made where the foil is kept, so the sound of the drawer opening became a stimulus. Just one example.) To this day, if he sees a reflection or hears the aluminum foil drawer or some other association, he can't ignore it; he'll go to it and drop or sit, looking at me. (Which is better than the original behavior, but there'll never be another laser light with a DS in my house. Not worth the gamble.)

I've heard of lots of dogs that became obsessive over lasers, that is why I was shocked when I saw it saying it was specifically for dogs and cats!! I just couldn't believe it!

I missed ALL OF YOUR "OMG" and "LOONEY" icons! Make 'em bigger next time, will ya, please? Geesh, Sue. (My excuse is I'm wicked sick and a zombie from living on night-time relievers for days on end. I don't know what my excuse shall be next time.)

I will go down in history as the girl who used one successfully to train a service dog. Of course, he was a lab.....so maybe no points there.

Not just you Christie. I have no problem with lasers either. I use them wisely, but to my benefit yes, with no ill side effects. Not sure if I will still feel the same way if a PSD (Police Service Dog) sees it fit to go after that red dot on the suspect he just apprehended, ahem, but for the time being, I do think they can be a useful tool. :wtg:

There's the thing...a tool in the right hands is one thing. Driving a dog nuts with those stupid things is another

My dog Kodi goes insane when he sees a laser. I mean completely neurotic. Shaking, salivating, etc. This is something I had never seen before, and will never understand. Lasers are not allowed in my house anymore haha.. :yernuts:
