Tell us what you think...DS or not?

how old? he is certainly focused on you and the camera -- that's a great sign. seems to have it in him, especially if the ears start standing up, but i defer to the DS experts on here. what is clear from his looks and focus is that you have a really, really great and intelligent dog there. where did you get him?

We got him from California Labs, Retrievers, and More. They said that he is part Aussie. He is not 100% anything but the brindle is really cool and he doesn't look like a pit or boxer. He is AWESOME. My wife and I are both dog lovers and this is our first animal together. So smart and loving. He has all the characteristics of a shepherd. He also uses his nose to track EVERYTHING. His ears pop up when he listens but don't stay up very long. He just turned 5 months. We saw a Dutch Shepherd on google and it was very similar to his look. He has short hair but not super short. you are welcome. based on your further comments, i personally would say he definitely part DS. given the mix i bet he will be a super-special dog. how much does he weigh now - trying to guess how big he will get. do you have a target weight where you think he will wind up?

He is 34.6 lbs right now. The Vet said that he should be in the 60-65 range. How long have you had a DS or mix?

he sounds on target to be a great DS mix. i rescued Trace-Dog [ pictured in the forum masthead this month; photo 10 months before he died] off streets of manhattan at 6 mos of age in early 2000.
since he died in july, i have been involved in the rescue of another 3 DS, most recently 2 at one time -- Xander and Sakima [ keeping him ], both about 9 mos old now - 2 mos later. you can see Xander entered in this month's photo contest ' caught in the act'' - he offers so sooo many opportunities for such a photo category!
the 2 are also posted elsewhere in whatever and in photos. i find the intelligence of the Ds astounding and fascinating. TD was pure DS in traits, behavior, etc, but his look suggests he might have had a bit of something else in him; on the upside, whatever it might have been sharply augmented his smarts - far smarter than any pure Ds or Mal i have ever met. so who knows, your mix could be a real genius !
