I have been watching Alpha Dogs and I love the show. Being a prior military K9 handler I relate with the training methods and teaching. Kenny is hard nosed, that's what I had back in the '80's, tough instructors, which I think made me a great handler. I come to find out I was at Lackland doing my K9 training the last year that Kenny Licklider was there. I shared my on FB about loving the show and shared it with some other K9 people. Boy did I get reaming by a lady. How most of her Law Enforcement friends hated the show and K9 handler friends, that not all K9 people love the show, which that is ok. She proceeded to tell me that they like Glory Hounds, which is fine by me. Funny thing is, I am not even friends with this woman on FB. Anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone else had seen it and what they thought about it. Just curious.

i'll watch if you tell me where to find it - and glory dogs? give it all a try!

I just think that everyone has different methods of getting to the same place. Training has advanced quite a bit, with the use of less physical manipulation and the use of marker training. But when you have to put out as many dogs as they do - I would assume they make sure the dogs that come through fit their program so they can get them in and out fast. Much of the military has changed their programs, but not all.

I thought that it did a great job of showing the working dogs as the machines that they can be - not the cuddly, wuddly couch potatoes some people wish they were.

Off topic - would you mind visiting the User Control Panel and creating a signature that includes your name? Helps us keep everyone straight.

My wife and I sat down and really wanted to get into the show. Unfortunately we felt that there is too little actual dog training and demonstration and WAY TOO MUCH reality show drama.

I agree however...... dog training is like Nascar. It's way more fun to drive the car than watch the race. I think the general public would be bored to tears about the actual 'training' they do with the dogs. Further, one peruse of the workingdogforum will give you an idea about how open people are about how they train dogs. It's not "private" but a lot of guys treat it like a state secret.
