I just can't abide animals under my feet when I'm cooking. Geyser is no problemo. I just tell her to settle down in a certain place out of my way, and she stays there, and of course, gets tidbits as I cook.

One of my cats tho, Boozoo, will stand right next to me and get in the way, constantly. After all, he wants his treats, too .

So, since I clicker train my cats, I decided this was just another training issue . I trained him to remain on a little carpet square, that I place wherever I want him to stay...

...thus:

The cat does not look happy!

Odin's not too bad with me cooking, but gosh I just can't eat a banana in this house without him practically attacking me. I don't like the ends of the bananas, so he normally gets them tossed to him. Now, if I even rip one off the bunch he comes flying out of nowhere and does a "front."

Ha, ha, so cute the cat waiting on the little mat. Great job!

Re: bananas...my husband shares his banana every day with Sugar and its the same thing...no matter where she is in the house; she could be sleeping, and as soon as a banana is pulled off the bunch, she jumps up and comes running. Then he puts a piece in his mouth and lets her take it from his mouth. And that is his bonding moment with the dog!

I know exactly what you mean about getting something out to eat yourself that they particularly love, and suddenly, they present some wonderful behavior...

that is so cute !!! Thalie has her spot right at my feet in the kitchen too, just in case something drops.

i'm impressed with clicker training cats! I fostered a cat that would jump at me whenever I brought out the treats bag, so I trained him to sit. After that, he would automatically sit every time I opened the treat bag.

But the DS is MUCH more trainable than a cat - thank goodness!!!

DS's are soooo trainable, its great. I had two cats in the past and they both thought they were dogs, they would follow me around, chase the balls it was so cute.

Nice job. I prefer the canines to felines, though have rescued a few cats, the ones I liked best were the ones that acted like dogs

Again Leih you're so intelligent and clever! That's a great picture and I love that you are not only with it enough to train your cat but to also use a piece of blue carpet to break up his ability to naturally camouflage with your kitchen floor!

It's opposite here. Everyone knows "out of the kitchen." The dog matches the floor so it's best to have him off of it to avoid being stepped on, but the cats are grey so easier to spot. Though I do still manage to not see them now and then. But I (or is it they?) have always been like that. On Sevin's first day here, at a couple of months old, I noticed he was missing. It was several minutes before, out of a lack of anywhere else to look, I found him waiting patiently and unconcerned in the refrigerator for me to open it back up. If you're not laughing stop and think about how it happened. Most people are looking in the fridge when it is open! You'd think I would have seen him go in there! This gives you a good idea of where I'm at most of the time!

Yeah. Just sitting there like nothing was going on. He looked up at me as if to say, "No monsters in here, and a bit of oxygen left." It was kind of him to not tease me for being so blind!

He's our little clown. He and Rorhin play some, which I'm really happy about, but it doesn't happen often enough. I've considered tying strings to Rorhin's extremities. Shows you where my mind goes! Usually Sevin is able to create his own entertainment. He's definitely more of a dog personality than a cat!

I always enjoy having Diesel in the kitchen with me, it really doesn't bother me at all.
Then one of our friends who has a dog insisted on no dogs in the kitchen at any time. Now my husband insists that no dog be in the kitchen at least when we are cooking. Both dogs know the "out of the kitchen" command but I don't enforce it. Now I'm the one who gets in trouble whenever the dogs are in the kitchen!
What do you do when you disagree with your husband on a house rule?

On a side note, Diesel has developed a game he really enjoys from this "rule": he will stand at the edge of the kitchen and roll his ball to me, I kick it to him and repeat. Halo plays goalie, but had no interest in catching the ball.

PS: LOL about finding the dog in the fridge! Was any food missing?

I make all the rules in our house...so I don't really have a problem with this. But, I do have to deal with someone who doesn't always obey the rules .
