Hey, I just saw this website that sells collars and leashes that have written on them things like FRIENDLY, or NO DOGS, or NOT FRIENDLY, or TRAINING, etc

I thought what a great idea!! Here is the link.

Oh, and I just clicked on the adoptable animals that is on their site (just for fun....they are in Australia), and they have a dog looks kinda like a DS mix named Lila.

With horses, we would tie a red bow on their tail and that would mean to stay away because they kicked.

Its a good idea. I wonder though how many people still wouldn't pay attention to that. I would need a shirt that said, " my dog will eat your dog"

It sounds like they are trying to educate people there to know what the different colours on the dogs mean, which is a great idea...just like I guess horse people know about the red bow on horses (I had no idea...good to know!)

Of course not everyone will pay attention, but if some do, wouldn't that be great?

I think the idea is great. At lease people may see writing on the leash and collar and look to see what it says. It drives me batty when people just come up to me and let their dogs see mine with out even asking. Usually around horses people learn really quick what the red bow means LOL.

My first through was that I would never put a collar that wide on my dogs... So, you would have to get pretty close to read what it says.

My friend, Kristel actually went on an interesting thread about this topic not too long ago. Kristel is a friend I have mentioned a time or two in other posts. She and I have known each other for a very long time and helped each other through all manner of life experiences, dogs, horses, and parenthood.

She is a writer and has a dobie service-dog. (grandson of my beloved Durango,) Her blog often focuses on dog and horse related topics. (Including some great product reviews for harnesses and the like,)

Autumn, I read the blog entry and followed the link to an article recommeded. It has lots of good stuff in it as well. Something that all new dog owners should read.

Absolutely, education is the key, but its true, the ones that need it, don't educate them selves : (

I loved the article about rude dogs. that is so true !!! People ( not all) focus on the dog that is trying to avoid the situation instead of the rude dog.

I know! And I can't believe how many people think its funny that my dog is scared of their dog...because theirs is "friendly" or "small" or "just wants to play". It makes me so mad!!

I know Sue !! Me too !! Drives me nuts!!! The rudeness of the dog seems to be in correlation with the ignorance of the owner.

No worries! And even though she's not a member here, gotta give cred to my friend Kristel. Her blog is often chock-full of interesting tidbits and insights and links. Things that she is into, dogs and horses for just a small sampling, she researches thoroughly and likes to share what she finds.

I just saw these and I love them! I have thought about making my GSD a bandanna to wear that says "I'm Blind" because she's gotten very "barky" as she has gone blind. She barks and growls until she gets close enough to someone so she can smell them then she calms down. She even barks at us if we have on sunglasses or hats now. This is the perfect solution though!

I have a yellow ribbon tied to my leash, there is a campaign to use them... it means "caution" or basically, "No my dog doesn't want to meet your dog".

I've heard about the yellow ribbon program but I thought the writing on the actual leash or collar was great because not everyone knows what the yellow ribbon means, so if they see the dog they will likely see the message and hopefully get the hint!

...I just don't like really wide collars.

Id rather have a shirt that reads in big bold letters "my dog WILL eat your dog!"

Do you think that would work?
