Hey all! Just wanted to give an update on Maiya. She's doing really well, and now has sit and down pretty much under her belt. The come command is another story...ADD at its finest with her. Anyways, I got her a nice leather collar the other day (been searching for one without spikes since I first got her...Petsmart just started carrying the type I've been looking for), and here's some pics of her sporting it!




















Sunday, I took her to my folks to see how she'd react around other dogs. (They have 2 mals and a jack russell/irish setter mix (whom doesn't get along with other dogs well)) She did fabulously! My sister brought over her 9 month old puppy, Buckeye(a fox hound/dalmation cross) and in seconds, he and Maiya acted like they've never been apart. They were best friends on sight! My parents 13 year old Mal, Rusty, wanted to get in on the action so badly, but Maiya had no interest in him initially, just Buckeye. Rusty was quite upset for a bit, as he loves puppies! haha

Also, my parents fell in love with her. So I have dog sitters now if ever needed! Haha: ) (plus she gets along well with their dogs)

We had to rush her to the emergency vet last night as she was acting as if she had been poisoned. The vet confirmed that the signs she was having were from ingesting rat poison. We don't have anything like that on our property, and the only way she could have gotten it is if someone threw it into our yard.

She improved last night and was doing well this morning, but around 11, she crashed. Her blood was no longer clotting and the only other treatment that could have been done was to give her a plasma transfusion. Even with that, she would only have had maybe a 5% chance of surviving, and it was a painful recovery through it.

We decided it would be best to have them euthanize her so she would no longer be suffering. She was unresponsive by the time we got to go in to see her at the vet, and around 120, she went to sleep to wake up no more.

She is the best dog that I've ever had. She was just over a year old and had a heart of gold. She will never be able to be replaced.

We are calling the police to file a report here in a bit. The only suspects we can think of are our new neighbors, who's teenager was acting really oddly last night. According to my husband, he kept looking over into the yard.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you find whoever did this to Maiya. My family is thinking of you. Good luck with the investigation. Some people have no idea what it means to love an animal and have that animal truly love you back.

omg, ...share above sentiments, but cannot think what else to say right now. too upset. crying so can hardly see. I am so very sorry. I hope you will get through this awful thing with some semblance of sanity. i think many here loved Maiya without even the pleasure of meeting her.

This is incomprehensible. What a tragedy. IF it was the neighbor's boy, I would consider moving, if possible. Who knows what else he is up to. It is sickening what even young kids seem to be capable of in these days.

Thanks all. We have been looking for a home since my husband and I got married back in March. Financially, we're not able to move right now. This house is my inlaw's old home, and we are rent free right now.

But after tonight, we REALLY want to get out of here. We can't even let our other dog out loose anymore until we find a new home.

We, especially myself, are completely devastated. Maiya was my baby...That dog lived solely to see and greet me each day. She would throw herself at me and was just so happy to see me when I got up in the morning and home from work each evening.

I miss her so much already :'(

Be greatful for the time you had her in your life, however short it was. You now have an angel
"upstairs" watching out for you. And if you see a shooting star at night, you know she says hello.

We have filed a report...and I think it's just being put down as a suspicious death. The officer didn't seem to want to lean towards rat poison, despite all the signs pointing at that.

take the puppy for the last leg of a journey to his forever home that really needs him right now, THEN PLEASE READ THE NEW THREAD IN "RESCUE" so we can rapidly bring some bit of easing of the pain that Jess and her family are experiencing. EXPERTISE in putting together such a transport also appreciated !!
