I think that's what Nico may be or at least be mixed with I'm thinking he probably isn't a Dutch shepherd at all.... which is okay... we love him! It's funny we wanted another DS or DS mix but only do rescue..... we went through a lot of stress and money getting him here... and right away I noticed he didn't act like a shepherd... what a crazy journey this has been! I am so happy with this little hound mutt thing though he is sweet to my children and submissive to Stella

I just wonder if training a hound is any different than training a shepherd? Stella was our first dog so she's all we know. I guess I'll use the same techniques and see what he does its just weird to train a dog that has zero drive.... I couldn't even get him to put a toy in his mouth he just wants to run around or get his belly rubbed

I haven't heard of this breed, and I live in Tennessee! I'm sure I've seen one at some point, though. There's a pretty wide variety of hunting hounds around here. I'm far from an expert, but I don't see so much hound in Nico's face. The biggest thing that strikes me is that you said he didn't even bat an eye at a squirrel. I would think a hunting hound would have a very strong prey drive for little critters. How's his sniffer? A hunting hound should have a keen one. I also read something just now that says they don't bark, but howl and bay instead. Whatever he is, he's a lucky guy to have such a caring home. Thanks for rescuing!

On a completely unrelated note, while looking for info on TN Treeing Brindle Hound, I stumbled across a site that's nothing but funny pictures of upside-down dogs. I've been giggling for hours! Maybe an idea for a future photo contest.

The only thing that made us think hound is the way he barks he sounds just like a beagle!
I don't really care what he is it's kind of funny trying to guess... I make signs that I sell from my home and one of my rescue dog themed signs says "my favorite breed is rescued" I think I'll hang one above his crate!

He has no prey drive or amazing sniffer.... my step daughter dropped a piece of string cheese on the floor and I had to literally pick it up and give it to him.... he's quite the little clown... It's so weird having a dog like this when all we have known is Stella! I'll post another pic of him next to her.... I just don't see much resemblance.

I've heard if the breed, only because my friend tried to coverup the fact that her dog is a pit-lab mix on paperwork for apartments with that breed. Frankly, I don't know much about it, Your dog looks like a DS to me! But who knows!

I honestly have no clue but I shouldn't jump to conclusions about him having no drive.... he and Stella stalked a rabbit last night through the fence.... He had his back leg up she had her front leg up lol they're quite the pair!
