Belated: Rufus' Road Trip Home!

First, I've got to apologize for the lateness of this post, but better late than never! So, let's begin this little photo essay:
First, we begin early on a Saturday morning. Hilde, Elizabeth, and I packed up the car for our first big weekend away together, then headed down to the shelter in NE Alabama. As we approached, Hilde was full of anticipation: Then we met Rufus, a cute, funny little guy with a great personality. He and Hilde were fast friends: Check out the difference between their paw sizes! Satisfied that everyone was ready, we hit the road. Both dogs were excited about the big adventure! Shortly into the ride all that excitement caught up with him, so Rufus crawled into Elizabeth's lap for nap time: The eagle-eyed among you might notice that Elizabeth's shirt is from the Pilots N Paws organization, a really great group of folks. http://pilotsnpaws.org/ That weekend we considered ourselves low-flying members. It's at this time we really got to examine the size of Rufus' paws. Elizabeth has small-ish hands, but even so, that's one big mitt he's got! In between the frequent rest stops, the two spent time playing and dozing in the back seat together: Oh, and we got a few of the inevitable "are we there yet?" looks: Finally, we made it to the TN/VA border and it was time to meet momma and daddy! Rufus could hardly contain his excitement: So, we parted ways and Rufus was off to his new home and we continued to our cabin in the Smokies. It was a joy to spend some time with him and be able to help Jess and her husband save him. I'm sure he's growing like a weed and getting into all kinds of trouble! We're looking forward to hearing/seeing more about him and his adventures.
