Meet Shadow: the rescue called her a Dutch Shepherd Mix

Hello,
I adopted Shadow from Louie's Legacy rescue in Cincinnati in November. They had pulled her from a rural Kentucky shelter. They listed her as a Dutch Shepherd mix. This was the first I had heard of the breed. I would appreciate anyone's opinion. She is currently nine months old and weighs about 32 lbs. I don't think she will get much over 40-45 lbs. She is very intelligent and easy to train. When outside she often crouches or lies down and intently watches our other dogs, then rushes them (to play). She is very friendly and submissive to other dogs, extremely loyal to me. Altogether a wonderful dog. Her brindling is almost completely black and white, no brown. She has humongous ears!
Thanks for your input.

Nice looking dog!

I'm going to agree that a mix is the answer.

Soon as I saw the first picture something didn't look right. Then I read you description of "black and white" which is not DS.

my Sakima [ his youtube link is below ] was dumped by his ''breeder'' in a TN shelter along with a litter-mate brother. i would not be shocked if your dog came from the same guy. Saki is now 21 months old and weighs 66 lb. He loves EVERY dog [ even those that would rather kill him ] and every person [ though people also make him nervous as he had a pretty rough first 7 months ]. he stalks his housemates as you describe - which a full DS will also do - but he does that with less humor and more seriousness than the dogs that are definitely DS. in general, he lacks the extreme sense of humor that i expect from DS. his herding instincts are WAYsuper strong. his looks/behavior/movement/physical prowess/daredevil attitude are 97% DS, but, as Eric said about Shadow, there is something that just does not seem right for a full DS. [ Saki's brindle is tan and black, but a hint of white/gray bridle on his chest. ] in Saki's case, his mix would definitely be confined to other shepherd breeds; i tend to think it could be GSD and/or some Australian herding breed and i arbitrarily guess at 1/4 non-DS, meaning one grandparent was a non-DS shepherd.

What a gorgeous dog! Thanks for sharing pictures of him. Yes, I agree, Shadow doesn't have a full-on shepherd build, and her face is different. I am enjoying learning about dutch shepherds, though. Thanks!
