Hi all, trying to come up with a name for the future pup. Looking to get a female, so unique girl names would be more helpful then male names!

Having a list of names you like goes a long way too in helping to name a puppy! Smart move! I was recommended by a breeder once to pick a name with 2 syllables or at least one that won't sound like an obedience command and I forget the reason why for the first part. The second came from a dog he met called Fitz, who's sit command was "sitz". You could imagine what happened when they tried recall.

Hope this helps! And sometimes when you see your puppy, you realize every name you potentially chose doesn't quite do her justice. Hendrix was destined to be Edox but when I saw pics of him the name didn't fit. Whatever name you choose for your future girl I'm sure it will be awesome!

Is there a theme to the litter or beginning letter requirement? Odin was supposed to be Elwood, but he came with the name Odin and it fit him perfectly. We decided to keep up with a norse mythology theme. Elli was a small old lady goddess that tricked Thor into a wrestling match and beat him. It's a perfect fit for Elli because she's a tiny little Dutch Shepherd with a tough side and her previous name was Stella, so it was an easy conversion.

My next pup is going to be named Tyr. His nickname in mythology was Odin's left hand man. He's going to take over for Odin demoing in my classes.

Thanks Kira... and Stephanie, the registered name of the dog will have to begin with "S", but obviously their call name doesn't need to. I kind of wanted to have their name start with S, but my currrent dog is Stig so I didn't know if that was going to be too many S's in the household... "Stig, S___ (future dog), Sarah, AH!"

You have to remember you will be using this name several times. It shouldn't rhyme with anything you say alot like experatives. You will be yellling this over hill and dell as well as experlatives sweet as well as pissed. Just saying.

i tend to consider native american names [ Sakima meaning Chief ] and names with relevant meaning from history [ AleXander, Xander, Xan all meaning defender of men ].
some Native American ideas for you:

Tiva - dancer
Kateri - pure - in Mohawk
Tallulah [ any phonetic spelling ] - leaping water - in Choctaw
Kalista - coyote chasing deer - in Miwok

Sora, Sakiri, and Saphira are my favorite so far.... Might go with Saphira, what do you guys think?
