Hello everyone,


By the end of next week my new friend Billy will be arriving the US from Holland. Billy is a 3 year old Dutch Shepherd who recently received his ph1. I will post photos when he arrives and of course videos

I'm confused...the black saddle???

That's what I was thinking. He is a beautiful boy. Maybe a GSD/DS mix (I do see some slight brindling on the rear legs)?

Is he from KNPV lines?

Most DS ( like 90-98%) in the US are from KNPV lines...Fonske II offspring? If i see his colouring?

I looked up Fonske and he does have a very dark coat with lighter legs, similar to a sable blanket, but the head on Billy is blocky and Fonske's have the sleeker heads. Billy has a coloring closer to the traditional GSD sable blanket where Fonske has the black body with just the lighter legs.

Selena; the dog is one from Andre. The father is Kay (BRN 16539).

Congratulations on the new addition! I will be very interested to see your videos and pictures!! Are you planning to continue his training in a specific discipline here in the US? Or are you importing him for breeding purposes. I would love to see his whole pedigree! I looked up his sire and he has some very impressive dogs behind him.

I would venture to say that 95% of the "Dutch Shepherds" in this country are from KNPV stock and have some malinois in their pedigrees. He would be listed as a X Hollandes Herder (Dutch X - as the crossed KNPV dogs are called mixes based on what color they are). Looking at Billy's sire's pedigree on http://bloedlijnen.nl/, he has a bi-color mal behind him. Those genes could absolutely be responsible for the saddle pattern. Since all of our Dutch have mals in there, Billy is just as much a DS as any one that we own. I know it is easy to jump to a GSD conclusion because of the saddling - but further exploration will show that bi-color mals have the same markings. Regarding a blocky head, you will see that on many of the titled males coming over with KNPV titles.

Thanks Selena and Christie! That's what I was attempting to inquire about - his pedigree - but gave up (never try to type with a hyper puppy). The markings are beautiful on him. Such a unique coat!

Thanks for the explanation on the saddling, Christie. The saddle really threw me off, not that I am an expert...I am a 1 yr DS newbie and my Tyson is a mix anyway. Looking at this picture does make me wonder about Jerry Lee, though...he looks a lot like this dog.
