Hello all, my name is Mark and my wife and I are proud new Dutch Shepherd owners. I joined the forum so I could learn more about our new love, Lindsey She is 13 months old and is from Germany. She came over here for Police training but flunked out of police school because she is "too kind hearted and gentle". Her trainer also referred to her as a "dud" but she is such a sweetheart I'll just have to agree with the first quote.

We just got her on Saturday afternoon (2/7/15) so she's experiencing a lot of new things and new people right now. She has spent most of her life either kenneled or training so freedom is a big new thing. The first thing we had to do was to teach her how to go up and down stairs

The 900HP comes from years and years ago when my friends and I would talk about a good sounding (really good sounding) street or race car and we'd say "thing sounds like it's got 900 horse". 900HP became the benchmark for me and even though I've built engines with a LOT more power than that I use 900HP as my screen name on all of the forums I'm a member on (mostly racing sites). I own and operate "Throttle's Automotive" and "Throttle's Performance" (my nick-name is "Throttle") and Lindsey gets to come to work with me every day. The only kennel time she sees now is for night-night time and that's just to give the cats a rest. After they are used to her I'll only kennel her if I have to step out of the shop for a road test or errand and that would be for her safety.

you are both lucky.

do not under-estimate her protective instincts, though - particularly if there is some ''horsing'' around that she is not used to, so do not let her mistake fake danger for real danger. despite her good heart, she would probably not hesitate to rise to the occasion if she sensed a real threat.

congrats !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with John, a "DUD" DS can still be a powerhouse LOL. Our Mal was a police drop out too but he was still a great dog for Ring Sport and protection.

Same here. My current boy couldn't go into a work program, but anyone's biggest mistake would be to underestimate him b/c he couldn't be a cop dog.

We went to the vet yesterday and she behaved exceptionally well. Up to date now on everything and she had to make the rounds and let all of the nurses and doctors pet her tummy

Hi, she is absolutely gorgeous. We have a Dutch and a German. The GSD is also a police drop out and has lots of "issues" but I know he's going to turn out great in the long run. We've had him 6 months now. Our Dutch was an 8 week old pup when we got him and is 14 months now. My husband has just left the dog section after 14 years as he got promoted to a new position.
