Dutch Shepherd Forum

I'm Fiona (with different usernames on other forums) from California! Currently have one standard Australia Shepherd named Lancer and one MAS named Rara. We've done both herding and agility together.

I'm moving into a city in LA, unfortunately without my dogs. My parents are very attached to both of them. I may be bringing Lancer with me on occasion, but he may spent most of his time at home home.

I'm currently on the epic quest for a serious flyball (and hopefully other sports) prospect among Dutch Shepherds or Malinois... I'm intent on working with these breeds. I'm in no huge hurry, so I hope to find the right dog that will match and enjoy this lifestyle. I'm also extremely interested in IPO, obedience, agility, dock jumping, nose work- in order of interest. But any and all competitive sports that the Dutchie/Mal would excel at and enjoy. This is a working home!

I prefer to adopt an adult from rescue, or maybe a returned adult from a breeder over a year old at the least who is maybe a little soft, too little guard/defense instinct for IPO, but still a versatile workaholic who is extremely handler-focused with high ball drive in particular. So just joining more breed-specific forums in advance, because I'm a forum and research nerd.

And please let me know if you are aware of reliable Dutch or Mal breeders nearby who may have an adult dog! Or any in rescue/available to adopt. I'm very willing to drive a few hours for the right dog.

Contact Karin Chan with the Driven dog. She's out in Long Beach and has 2 malinois and would be a great contact to have. She's big into French Ring and PSA and also does a lot with rescue and offers dog finding services. She helped me find both of my Dutch Shepherds when we both lived in Chicago.

OK, this one I just got lucky. Karin was one of my go-to references when it came to Chicago, and now she just so happened to have move to Cali.

I got lucky that you saw my thread then. I sent Karin an email about Dutch/Malinois selection and adoption. To be honest, I'm not sure what exactly the task is (and if you paid her for the service?), so my email was kind of a weird rant. Hopefully it works out. When can I expect to hear back, do you think?

I didn't pay her, she talked me into it twice!. My Elli (formally Stella) is on her adoptables page listed as adopted. We were friends when I worked in a pet store/self wash and she was a dog walker and came in all the time to bathe her malinois and when I was ready for a dog, she helped me out a lot and that's how we got Odin. She should answer fast (I hope), sometimes she runs behind on things. I sent her a heads up that you might be contacting her.

Gosh, Stella/Elli is a beauty. I was just staring at her photo on Karin's page the other day! Really lucky of both of you to meet too. I have yet to randomly come across a fellow dog nerd/trainer/forum stalker coincidentally in that kind of fashion. And thank you for that heads up to her! I totally understand if she is busy or anything like that.
