Dutch Shepherd Forum

Hello all! My name is Natalie and I am the happy owner of my dog Guinness. We got Guinness when she was four months old from the Humane Society of El Paso. My boyfriend and I we told that she was a pit bull/german shepherd mix. Only recently did we discover the possibility of her being a dutch shepherd. We would really appreciate some opinions on whether or not she fits the bill! She is smaller than other pictures I've seen of DS's, so we assume she might be mixed with something, or have been the runt.

Guinness is going to be 2 1/2 soon. She is very smart, and VERY quirky. Only one of her ears grew out, the other did not, no matter how much we massaged it. She hates fetch, but loves tug of war. Has some issues getting comfortable with strange dogs. She loves to new people, exploring, and hiking. Despises all car rides. She's playful and sweet, but also very protective. We can't even even have pillow fights without her trying to stop it!


All in all, she's Guinness. Gorgeous, independent, and awesome!
Please let me know if you think she's Dutch Shepherd material.

It looks to me like the original assessment of Pit/Shepherd mix is more accurate, but it sounds like you ended up with a great dog either way.

welcome !!! Glad she rescued you ! well, her body is working dog ish, but her head isnt . Its hard to say really. Many people go to the default Pit when the dog has a blocky head.

She sure is pretty !!!

Thank you both for your input! It's always hard to tell with pups from the shelter. I only know of one other DS in the area, and he's notorious for jumping the fence. So he may have made my Guinness with a stray or neighbor dog.

it is so hard to tell, there are strays everywhere and who knows where the dog originally came from .
