Hi, I have been looking into the pedigree of my dog and I keep seeing BRN and a # and NHSB and a # after some of the dogs names, what does this mean? I can seem to find anything by googleing

BRN is a "bloodline" number referring to this website: http://www.bloedlijnen.nl (Bloodline Registration Number)
Ususally these are mixes, not all though.
NHSB is the Dutch FCI studbook, it stands for "Nederlands Honden Stam Boek" litterally "Dutch Dogs Pedigree Book"
Can you tell us some names that are in there? Could be fun, maybe I know some

yes, so most are mixes, only Arno seems to be a dog with papers Good working line Dutchies in there

Jett is a pretty common stud here. Who was he bred to to produce your puppy??

Hmm. I spotted a grandfather in Jett's pedigree, who is also a grandfather to my ancient dog. (Ringo,Mettler)
They must have used Ringo a stud until he was waaaay up in his teens?
Like "Arno" who appears to be listed as papered, but born in 1967? His son Ricardo was born some 30 years later?

I didn't even notice, but those online databases can generally be filled out by just any random person...so....

Could it be these are different dogs with the same name? It seems to me that when I look at the pedigrees, they don't put the dogs full name down.... or at least I am not recognizing it amid all the letters and stuff..

Oh, don't I know! I found one of my girls (Kwinny) mated to a dog (Ero) that she never met (as an adult)
And my other dogs that I found in there, were certainly not put in by me.

In theory, yes. But some distinct names are not recycled dogs, but recycled names.

OMG - I HATE pedigree database! Its just makes me sad to see all of the classifieds of dogs being produced right now. I know that I will end up with many of them through the rescue

Hey Judith, in regard to Ricardo, do you know his lineage? I know he died at 14-15 a few years ago and that he and Whinny did produce quite a few working pups. Do you know who he was out of? I didn't catch the 1967 date on his "sire." LOL.

Ricardo was out of a dog named Arno, who belonged to Tino Kleine Schaars. Arno was by no means FCI/NHSB. Just KNPV working stock. Arno's dam Tosca was out of an NHSB malinois who was born in 1978. Arno's sire (Nicky) was an mid 80's model. I do remember the ads that appeared for Arno, somewhere around the early 90's maybe. Arno himself would be a late 80s model.
I thought that Ricaro himself was late 90's but I am too lazy to look up my KNPV championship lists.

I just found another pedigree of Jetts and the dogs on his side all have BRN numbers, even Arno, which on my first link has an NHSB number. http://www.vonderearnhardt.com/Dorothy-pedigree.html

A BRN number is not a registry. It is merely a valuable link to the dogs ancestors, but unlike FCI/NHSB, it is not a recognized registry. An NHSB (= Nederlands Honden StamBoek/Dutch dog registry) dog can be noted with a BRN (=bloedlijnen registratie Nederland/Bloodlines registry Netherlands) number for reference. But it has no added value. Dogs that do not have an NHSB number but who are in a genepool, can be traced with a BRN number when their background would otherwise be unknown. BRN is a good tool for KNPV breeders, but no more than that.

Also a nice resource for people trying to research various dogs and pedigrees. But as Judith said, its just a database of lineage. Anyone can set up a kennel and track their breedings.

Is Arko a popular stud? I looked Him up then found Marco, I knew Marco.

Arko has become a popular stud here in the US. There are many first generation dogs off of him, and now a LOT, LOT, LOT of second generation.
