Greetings:
I'm a retired National Park Service ranger who was living overseas after retirement, and am now back in the U.S. I've had German Shepherds since birth (my birth that is) and my last GS died at 14+, and I'll probably get a Dutch Shepherd soon. Now, reading extensively about various dogs, decided that my chance of finding a healthy GS are lower than finding a healthy Dutch Shepherd. Also, my wife and I enjoy travel and camping, and the slightly smaller size is perfect for us. Although my job was law enforcement, I did not have a police dog (despite telling them that I'd buy my own), but I've assisted other officers with their service dogs, so will do some protection training, but I'm not seeking a hyper driven DS.
Reading this forum is great, and helps with my knowledge of the breed. Hopefully, I'll soon find the proper DS for us, and then I'll be happy!

Welcome !!!

I did protection sport with Thalie and it was a blast ! Not finding a hyper driven DS may be hard though since they are usually high drive dogs. Talk to the breeders though, they are out there. Thalie is a lower drive but they are few and far between. She was with the trainers dog in France. She did Ring sport great. Look around ask the members here about breeders, they will steer you in the right direction.
