The cone for paw injury

Lexi has a paw injury that isn't getting better. She is on her second round of antibiotics. The plastic cone wasn't long enough so she would keep reaching her paw and pulling off vet wrap and tape, then licks her wound which is the problem. I finally just quit putting the cone on her. So I'm looking online at something called comfy cone. The medium size has extra long which length would be good but i think her neck is a large size but the large doesn't have extra long ... crazy. Has anyone used a comfy cone on dutchie about 60 to 65 pounds? Does anyone have anything similar with length that goes beyond nose? She will be with us for a long weekend so that will help.but I'd like to order something soon to help when I go back to work.

Front paw or rear paw?

I have had to resort to combining the standard cone with an inflatable donut to keep Radar from getting at his paws. That's not 100% foolproof either, but it's the best I've been able to accomplish.

Lisa, could you put it on one of your dogs and then.hold a treat near the rear paw to see of they could reach either.standing, sitting, or laying down? I haven't seen anything like it in stores I could try ...

They can but its not comfortable. I had a treat so they really wanted to but I think that on their own they will wont? Not sure.. It may be worth a try though. I dont like the cones.. This is very soft and wont scare them if they hit it on the wall

That Kong thing is very similar to the donut I was talking about - but I used it with the cone (double my chance of success).

I should also mention that I have one of those soft-sided canvas cones. When he tries to get to his hind legs it collapses over his mouth making it harder to get to.

But, mister smarty pants figured out how to prop open the soft cone with his knee - that's why I added the donut.

I ordered both the Kong donut and cone last night. Went to work yesterday and she worked on her paw ... so opted to spend ed extra money on both rather 100 on a other vet visit!! Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes. Hopefully it will arrive early next week.

Have you ever.heard of a sugar wrap? My local vet that saw her put sugar on the wound before washing. I had to Google and apparently it is good for wounds. Just never heard of it.

P.s. I saw the comfy cones advertised. I saw the medium size had a 12 inch for long snout but I could not find a large long size. Large long might.have worked also if I could have found it.
