Today is a day of thanks in the U.S.

I know we have an international membership, but that doesn't mean we can't all give a little thanks from time to time.

First of all, I hope you all eat too much, laugh too much, love too much, and football too much (even if your football is round).
  • Thank you to all the members who contribute on a regular basis.
  • Thank you to all the new members - and yes we have a lot of new members lately.
  • Thanks to all the old members who may not be present now, but have contributed a wealth of knowledge to this community.
  • Thanks to Radar who has turned my life upside down and inside out, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.
What are you thankful for?

Where to start! I am thankful for so much. I am thankful for my father, who drug me along into an extraordinary life, who led me to my love of dogs, and was one of the most talented and influential men that very many folks would ever know. I don't think Dad ever knew how much of a difference he made.
I am thankful for my wife and kids, though I sometimes regret not eating my thirteen year old while his bones were still soft ;-).
I am thankful for every opportunity I've ever had. For every minute spent sitting on some frozen rock waiting for another sunrise and a deer. For memories. For ambition.
I am thankful for this amazing creature sleeping here with her snout buried in my running shoe. I am thankful that my wife gave her a second chance after she nipped the kid; now they are inseparable! I am thankful for responsible breeders that do a good job for all of us.
I am thankful for this forum, where I can learn and share. I am thankful for the help and advice from each of you whether direct or from poking around.

Shoot, forgot a big thankful that happened this weekend. We went hiking in southern Illinois. The young Akita mix kept getting close to the edge of cliffs and we'd keep calling her back to the trail. Famous last words ... at least I don't have to worry about Lexi, she is smarter than that. Argh!!! We came a spot in the trail that was on rock and close to the edge. We leashed up the young Akita mix but I just called Lexi to follow me. I looked back to see her slip on wet leaves and go over the edge. Freak out!! Thank God the ledge at that point was only about ten feet instead of twenty or thirty. Also thank God she landed in think pile of leaves instead of the many big rocks right near where she landed. Physically she was fine but mentally she was pretty freaked out. Poor baby. Just really good thankful she did break bones or die. She is just now getting over an injury from running under a moving horse.
