Updates and such

Hello all it's been a while... thought I would pop in and say hi to everyone. If you haven't already, please go to the Medical section and take a look at my post there.

H and I are doing well. H is almost 4 now and I can't believe how time flies. He has one grey whisker that cracks me up. Still as much of an ass as he was when he was a puppy but he listens a tad more. We have an amazing partnership forged through the years of blood, sweat, swearing, thousands of hours and $$$ sunk into training, and constant commitment to bettering ourselves. The kid has taught me a lot and made me a much better handler for it.

But... with the good comes the bad. H has been fighting an odd physical ailment for a few months. Came on suddenly as an odd gait right around November. His physical was a few weeks later and I pointed it out to his vet who agreed he had slight muscle loss in the affected leg and an altered gait. That began the quest to find out answers and a bone scan, 12 X-rays, an ortho, and a neurologist later we still don't have super clear answers, but we have ideas and paths to follow until those dead end as well. H has weathered the changes and restrictions good natured as much as can be expected. But something is still off so we still search.

He has proven he has a very high tolerance for pain unless it's mom touching his paws... then it's just uncontrollable pain mom! He's my trooper.

I myself have been having my own health problems so some days we're a pair and some days it's me or him pulling the other out of bed. His drive can be a PITA but it's him and I make sure he's satisfied however I can. So for all you newbie owners out there, there is hope. But it doesn't come easy and it doesn't come naturally and it certainly doesn't come cheap. Don't ever underestimate how much work you put into this breed because it comes back tenfold to you later in life.

You can sometimes catch H or me on IG or the Facebook DS group but we're usually quiet and don't post many pics of H anymore. He's still a ham for the camera but life gets busy and time moves on. For those of you who miss us - reach out via PM and we'll figure out a way to keep in touch. I'm rarely on here but do respond to PMs as much as I can. Keep those brindled beasts fed and happy and yourselves relatively sane!

I am sorry that you and H are having health problems. My wife's going through some back problems right now, but she diligently gets Radar and Leela out for their morning walk every day. She's such a trooper, but it really highlights your comment:

I would also like to say thank you. You are one of the superstar members here on the forum, and definitely one of the reasons I keep it going - and why I have hope for the future of the forum. :wtg:

Sorry to hear of your struggles. I hope you can get a handle on what's going on with H. Your comment about the drive makes me laugh... I completely get it - sometimes you want to be a slug on the couch but ICE say "no no no" :-)

I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles. When I first joined a couple years ago, I remember seeing your posts quite a bit. You've always been a calm, reasonable, and helpful voice here. I honestly wish you both all the best!
And I second the back and forth relationship. One of the main reasons I was looking for a higher energy dog was because I needed someone that wouldn't LET me sit around too much. I have a dear friend that was suffering through something like MS and recovering from a stroke. He confided in me once that he didn't think he would have recovered if it weren't for the need to get up and take care of his stupid dog. (And that wasn't mean spirited...The dog really was dimwitted. There's some hilarious stories)
Again, we wish you all the best.
