Once again one of my dogs has come home from a kennel with a cough. Took a few days before it showed up but Cino kept me awake much of the night because of it. The kennel I took them too requires that the dogs be within 6 months for the Bordatello vaccination - a lot of good it did and why I'm not a fan of that particular vaccination.

Other than the usual symptoms of KC he is acting normal, eating normal, etc... For now I'm not going to the vet unless it worsens.

But what I am wondering about - is what do people on the board do to treat the symptoms? Give the dog (and myself) some relief from the coughing.

childrens cough syrup with no sugar in it.

Our Vet prescribes Robitussin D M, very effective.

From what I've read online:
1) purchase whatever the homeopathic/holistic product that the website is selling

or

2) A little bit of honey followed by children's cough syrup. then taking a hot shower with the dog in the bathroom with you (or--steam up the bathroom and have the dog in it)

Dingo does NOT like the shower... I need a muzzle, and a good set of nerves trying to get him into the shower... I'll stick with the cough syrup

I believe that the actual shower is not for Cino.... He is just the recipient of the steam. Gwen is the same after I left her at a day care where apparently they squirt the dogs when they are engaging in unwanted behavior... ... although, if the water is warm it is a tad bit easier to get her into the shower... sigh.. but she can be such a slippery little bitch....

It's more about the steam/humidity helping with breaking up the congestion if it exists. Not so different than putting a humidifier in a room with someone who has chest congestion.

Really? I'll try that one. Hope this one will do it.

Robitussin DM is what I have used as well. Then if it seems to progress into a secondary infection, of course, antibiotics.
