Geyser is blowing her coat for the first time. Let me tell you; GSDs have nothing over a DS who is blowing her coat!

I groom her daily anyway, but now, have added the Furminator (thank you Whoever, for inventing this! ). I vacuume the hard floors every day, too, but now, they look like it's been a week by the next evening .

I think a good scrubbing bath and hard blow out with a high velocity drier is a MUST a few times a year. Follow that with the Furminator and you are almost home.....

i have a pressure washer and a leaf blower, will that do????

I know, same with Sugar and her shedding. How much fur can come off such a little dog??? Does this go on all summer or does it get better?

Christie, I think a bath would be wonderful...except she just cut one of her foot bads badly AGAIN, the little jerkette, so trying to keep it dry<sigh>

poor dogs...

I hardly ever bath them... got the furminator and within 2 weeks all is done Than the next one starts... why do they never do this nsync... just to annoy me??

No. I didn't take her to the vet this time, as it was just like the last time, and I know exactly what to do for this kind of cut now

Her foot is all healed up now (yay!), and she's back swimming again, which really helps with getting rid of that hair, too (almost as good as a good scrubbing ).

Say it aint so - a DS shedding more than my German Shedders?!? Must be because you all are up north where your DSs have more coat for winter protection because my Zip sheds very little. At least nothing to hold a candle to the GSDs. They blow enough coat to fill lawn sized garbage bags. Yes indeed, the furminator is a life-saver!!!

I have to say, Thalie dosnt shed much at all, My X's GS used to leave a carpet in the kitchen every morning!

So hot here--my pup is looking for the zipper on her coat.

Seriously, after I bath and brush out the GSDs, I use the vacuum cleaner on them to suck out the loose hair. And still I have huge hair balls that float across the floor so I vacuum almost every day. Looks like hair tumble weeds when the ceiling fans blow.

Denise, it's just during the blow out. Normally, my DS is great about not so much shedding. There are always hard to see, short guard hairs on the floor, but not that constant fluff everywhere stuff that just gets worse during blow out you get with a GSD.

Now you're really cracking me up! That's what my spousal unit is always saying to me..."Oh, is that what's doing it?" (of course, I'm always saying that something or other makes me nuts )

I think Sasha's shedding is beginning to slow down some - there for a couple weeks, we had black furry tumbleweeds rolling down the wooden stairs! I was making Sally sweep them down to the bottom then vacuum - could not BELIEVE how much hair would be emptied out of the vacuum!

Now that her hair is thinner all over, you can definitely see her "panties" all around her rear end!!!

Anybody have a recommendation for a good shampoo? We finally solved the sprayer issue - Sasha HATES the garden sprayer, so I found an excellent attachment at PetSmart that can be used inside or out. Now I need to find a good shampoo - we have whitening, tea tree oil, all kinds of various ones for our Westies and their skin "issues" but not sure what kind is best for a DS!

If you just need a basic shampoo for a dog with no skin issues, I LOVE Lambert Key Fresh and Clean. You know how when a dog gets sprayed by a skunk, they smell like skunk every time they get wet for months after? Well Fresh and Clean is the same way. The smell like the shampoo every time they get wet months after. I love it.

And Leih, I used to combine swimming and baths for Willow. I would toss the ball in the water a few times to get her wet, then suds her up on the shore with shampoo and then toss the ball a few more times! Best of both worlds!
