How hot is it?!?!?

Post by GSDNanny »

It's so hot.....I forgot and left some chicken yard eggs in a bucket in the bed of my truck that was parked in the sun a couple days ago. Well, went to get them out that evening and yes indeed they were partially cooked. Seriously.

Got in my truck at noon today and my sunglasses on the dash had melted. Yes indeed.

Went to my mom's to swim in the pool, it was so hot, felt like bath water. Yes indeed.

It is so hot, what minute little rain we have had recently evaporates before it hits the soil so now my farm soil has hughemongous cracks (3" wide) all over and I am afraid to let the animals out for fear one will break a leg.

How hot is it in your area?

Tell us about yourself: I own a Labradinger (mom Springer Spaniel and the dad a Labrador Retriever) Great dog. I love dogs. Of course! I have always loved shepherds and lately have really got hooked on the DS. I am in the early stages of educating myself so that in the near future when I purchase one, I am making a sound decision.

Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

We should get Marjolein to post pictures of her breathtaking yard. Her husband still works in landscaping, I believe, and Marjolein has worked alongside him for a long time. To see the green, the cool, lush vegitation is such a welcome sight for me right now. 8-)
Here, flowers stopped trying, trees are wilting, weeds (!!) are dying, grass shriveling, dust blowing.
The heat index went up to 113 yesterday, with an actual temparture of 103 to 105. No rain for weeks, no rain in sight. I can barely work my dogs, because it is still in the high 90's even at midnight. Fall sounds like a great idea to me! Bring it on! Some mature trees are starting to turn already, ready to preserve themselves by slowing the sap stream. And I am losing others. They just fall, even wood giants. When/if we finally get rain, that will cause some more trees to fall victim too. It's brutal right now, worse than I have ever seen it down here.

It's so hot the temp inside my locked car, was 140 when I got in it. The leather seat burned my behind.

Will post the yard pics Judith, if it helps any of you guys :D

Oh, man, Judith, I feel for you guys! I heard on NPR today that Texas is in one of the worst droughts it's had. I hate it when the grass gets so dead and brittle, it's almost like walking on fiberglass or something.

It's especially sad to hear about your poor trees :(

Tell us about yourself: I have had a DS for almost a year. Gwen and I are considering participating in PSA and or possible Ring Sport. I also have a Great Dane. I have grown up around working GSDs and my last GSD was a working K9 officer. I am all about dogs and animals in general and want to learn as much as I can about training.

after several weeks in north central ohio with ridiculously hot weather (so hot no one will even come out for ice cream)... we got dumped on with high winds and flash floods... my poor garden got beat down by the rains.. Gwen and Izar won't get in the baby pool I got them but, they do think it is a giant bucket to drink from. :pint:

Tell us about yourself: Hi, I live in NC with my husband, daughter and son. With three Westies and 2 cats already in our family, we recently acquired a Dutch Shepherd as a service dog for our daughter, Sally.

Dreadful here in NC.........around 95-100 degrees and very high humidity the last few days. It finally broke this evening, so we got Sasha out chasing balls in the yard - burns off more energy than chasing cats in the house, and it's a lot less stressful on the cat! :dschick:

Marj, 55 degrees F?!?! I would trade in a heartbeat. :wtg:

Judith, my trees too are now losing their leaves due to the drought. I hope I dont lose any more trees as I lost one of my red Japanese maples that I had had for 25 years.

Oh my, I could just see a flying tent / DS fiasco!! Yipes!!

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.
