Hey everybody, new member here out of Florida. I just recently lost my Dutch who was also my retired K9 partner. I currently have a 5 year old Malinois that I’m actively working. He’s certified in patrol and explosives and we’ve been working together since he was 2.

My main reason for joining is breeder research. I will be looking for another Dutch as a family companion sometime next year. I’m not looking for a knpv working line dog, I have one of those lol.

Adopting from a rescue is always a consideration. I would however, prefer to select a puppy myself for this next dog. I would rather take care of the early socialization and confidence building myself due to my lifestyle.

When I say companion, I don’t mean lay around and watch TV. The dog will be with me (and my wife) in many different environments. We live on 10 acres with horses, other dogs and animals. It will be on and off atv’s, trucks, tagging along during long trail rides, hikes, runs, and riding on boats often. I want a confident, well bred, social pup.

Sounds like a KNPV dog to me.....lol

I think “knpv line” gets thrown around a bit loosely in the industry. My point is that I don’t need a top tier street dog. I have one of those already, and doing all of those activities that I named, with my work dog, is not realistic nor a good idea. I remember now why I dislike forums. Everybody is an expert and picks apart each other’s posts.

First of all, welcome to the forum.

One rule of thumb in a forum is that sarcasm is hard to spot, but I would have hoped that Tim's "...lol" would have been a clue.

I hope you stick around, and find that this forum has a variety of people who love the breed - and sometimes different opinions or perspective. Life would be boring as Hell if we all thought the same things.

It's been a while, but I love fishing up there. I used to fish a lot of redfish tournaments up there.

This is the place to do it. I spend quite a bit of time out there myself.

I’ll start soliciting for some breeder info when the time gets a bit closer. Hard to tell who is legit anymore, especially in the U.S.

Haven't seen but a few breeders here. I will say that open field would be a haven of release for a Dutchie compared to shear boredom punctuated by moments of excitement and terror as are most K9s in the services' work.
But then again I've no real reference to that having never left the states.

Yes, all of my dogs love the space that we are fortunate enough to have for them. I have not spent any time overseas so I can’t speak to the quality of life for those K9’s. I can only speak for my dog and the others within my agency, and they all live great lives. Most handlers probably spend more time together with their dog, than they do their families.
