I'm new to the forum - just found it today. I'm LEO, worked a DS for a brief time several years ago. I liked the breed so much, I located a pup & we have been fast friends ever since.
She was born 3/04. She has energy (but lately slowing down - she is 7 after all...)
But the last couple of weeks, she acts like she has trouble standing from a lying position. Sometimes she even cries when she gets up. And getting up is slow & somewhat labored.
She also hesitates when jumping up onto the bed. She has Never done this - she's always Loved to jump & play. The crying when she tries to stand sometimes is really bothering me. I started giving her glocosemine about a week ago.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening with her? No injuries that I am aware of. I have rubbed on her sides, hips, legs. She does not appear to be tender anywhere.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Sorry to hear about your girls soreness, I would suggest getting an xray to see if anything is going on in there.

She needs a trip to the vet.

May seem an odd question to ask, but is she carrying her tail as usual?

Raven - I think so. She is odd, she keeps her tailed tucked much of the time. I have never figured that out - she's always done that though. HAve you ever used glucosomine? I'm wondering how long it might take to see any results.

Meanwhile preventing her from jumping up and down untill you have had a consult with her at te vet. And before that I wouldn't let her take any kind of medication what so ever, just keep her quiet for the time being and don't take an unnecessary risk with her.

Checking out the joints is an obvious first and extremely important. Those things just deteriorate. Next rule out Pano (Panosteitis) although I haven't heard of it in DS yet. Finally, look at autoimmune issues that can cause muscle damage and discomfort....becoming more common.

Sounds like she needs pain meds more than supplements. I hope you found out what's going on with her and he's feeling better.
