I didnt have time for a hike so I took the girls around the yard to play. I went in the back where there is some debris from trees and usually some critters. Well.. Thalie caught a whif of a field mouse and Sadie noticed so had to go over and see what goodies were to be found. Both had their noses crammed under a small log, Sadie decided to dig the mouse out. Highly doubting anything was there, I moved the log a bit. Nothing came out but the girls insisted something was there. Dirty noses and all they sniffed. Then I heard a loud squeal, out comes a mouse from a hole mere inches from Sadies nose.....did she see it? Nope. The mouse ran to the left, in a hole right next to Thalies nose, did she see it? Nope. The mouse kept going from hole to hole, the girls noses not 6" apart and neither of them could get the mouse. It was too fast for the girls. DId I have a camera to get a picture of the mouse? Of course not. But the sight of a mouse running back and forth between their noses was priceless.

LOL! My dogs are like the Keystone Cops when it comes to a critter in the yard. They run in all different directions and nobody catches anything. One day I pointed out a rabbit 10 feet away and they didnt even see it. Lucky rabbit. The only thing that they ever killed was a baby possum. I have a feeling that was Boaz's work.

Marco is quite the "killer" too. Two days ago he wrestled with a juvenile racoon. When the racoon was laying on his back, he barked at him "get up, get up". So the racoon got up, standing on his hind legs walking towards Marco, then jumping in his collar and hanging in it, got shaken off, then nipped him in the front legs. Then Marco flipping him over again. Then they were lying next to each other, jumping up again, wrestling some more. Two juvenils from different species tolling around. After about 30 minutes they were looking at each other like "dude, I am tired" - "me too" and that was the end of it. The racoon had no sign of any injuries. Marco didn't have a scratch either. The racoon could have but didn't. He probably knew Marco was not going to hurt him either. Too bad I didn't have a camera with me!

Wow, what funny stories! I can just imagine the mouse running around and how funny that must have looked, and the raccoon wrestling...who would have thunk it!

At least it isn't as embarrassing as your dog actually catching the rat and then letting go because it suddenly makes a loud squeeeeeeckie sound when you bite it Poor rat...

Sadie caught and killed alot of mice this summer, thats why i am so surprised that they didnt catch this one! It was right under their noses, literally !

Exactly how the grey fox in my field catches them, one big pounce and then back to the den with it!

That's a hoot! I could just see them tumbling around. Interesting how young animals can co-exist before they learn the difference.

I love the shot of Floor pouncing the field mice! I wonder why dogs pounce like that - maybe to flush out their prey? Either way, it is funny to watch.
