*Female Dutch Shepherd in GA needs rescue*

She is located in Decatur, GA and is A friendly 1 1/2 year old DS. She was picked up as a stray I guess and has 5 days for her owners to get her until she can get euthanized when there is no more room. I would adopt her but my parents are not in a financial situation to do so. I am also going to put this in the Rescue section, but I put it here so that everyone can see it. I am also going to contact DS Rescues...

I like the female. I would certainly label that as a DS, yes.

The male does not strike me as having DS in him. More (Pit)bull & GSD, but of course, that does not mean that he does not deserve a loving home as well. I hope it both ends well.

Now looking at the male again it does look more like a brindle Pitbull GSD mix. I wanted to adopt her but my parents wouldn't so I had to at least make sure everyone knew she was out there. It's just my chance a DS is only minutes away from my home

I know! I am so upset that I cannot adopt her! I touture myself by looking at Petfinder all the time at dogs I wish I could have, even though I already have a Choc Lab Lol.

I am about 3hrs away...but I have a 5 mo old female already and don't think that it would be wise to add another female.

I could help with a leg of transport, however, and possibly a short term foster. (would have to talk to DH about that )

We/NADSR have contacted the shelter asking for more information on the female and if we can be of assistance. We too pulled a male DS from this same shelter in Sept this year.

It is crazy that 2 ds have come from that same shelter. I would hope that its not someone throwing the dogs off as "rejects". That would be horrible. I would have a whole pack if I could!

Doggirl, I found myself doing the same thing when my first ds died, I was searching all over the place at different sites knowing that I couldn't afford to buy another one at that time. There was just a hope that something would come along and maybe someone would have one really close at a low price. It sucks because you just look and look at all these beautiful dogs wishing you could have one. I got luckly though and adopted the brother of my pup that had died, same litter and everything. The owner just couldn't keep him.

I know I heard about your poor little Pup ! So sad, I really am sory about him. I'm happy that you were able to get the brother! I look at Petfinder about everyday, there is this one black Pitbull male that looks like he was bit by a snake in the face, it is all puffy. His name is Pancake and the look on his face is so pitiful. When I see dogs that need so much love and care and I am so close to giving that to them it kills me to know that 50% or more of them will be killed, especially pits.

It is sad, pits can be good dogs if put in responsible hands. I have been watching Pitbulls and Parolees like crazy!

Yep many Pit owners do not want to realize that Pitbull's have dog agression in there genes. It is not something you can "love" out of the dog and it is gone. You never know even with a great Pit. I still love Pits though, you just gotta be responsible witht them .

I love Pitts, I had a Pit/ Rott, oh she was sweet. Another friend of mine has a pure Pitt, also a sweet wonderful dog.

I wish I had a breed/mix like that. I love my dog, Choc Lab Male, but If I had my choice instead of my parents I would have gotten a Pit mix from the shelter for my first dog.

she was a very cool dog, she was black like a Rott, small, about 65lbs, nice sleek face. Very sweet, BUT, she did have one quirk, If you just met her and did not let her sniff you first, she would hate you forever. I had a friend that I told that too, and of course being a guy said, " oh no, all dogs like me" He went right up to her and she gave him a look and nipped and she never liked him.

Unfortunately, not so weird. About 2 years ago when I was running NADSR on this side of the country, I was contacted by someone who had a friend who was a "breeder." He had 19 puppies on the ground at that moment, was loosing his house and needed them out quick. With a 24 hour Board of Director decision, we told him I would take all 19 - but I really wanted them all, so they could be evaluated and placed appropriately. 2 days later, I was informed that the breeder had been able to sell all of them for $100 and $200 locally and they were so happy because that money could come in really handy.

So 19 puppies went out to people who know nothing of the breed and every single one of them was intact. We had an influx of DS out of GA about 10-12 months later (unruly adolescents) and its been a pretty big hot spot since. I'm sure many of those purchasers thought they were very lucky to come into such a great opportunity to create "police dogs."
