Mouse Trap!

Post by leih merigian »

For some reason, I get a spurt of energy after dinner clean up, which is when I generally vacuume for the day, clean bathrooms, etc. So, after dinner today, I decided to clean the bathroom.

I had set a mouse trap under the sink, inside the cabinet, since there had been mouse activity down under. Caught two of the suckers (why do I have cats? Oh yeah, to feed them myself  ), and have left a trap down there baited with peanut butter. I know it's there, and I check it every day, but so far, nothing.

So, in cleaning the bathroom, opened up the cabinet and went about my business, never thinking about the baited mouse trap and Geyser  . I had my back turned while cleaning the toilet, and all of the sudden, I hear this loud "SNAP!" and Geyser is jumping away. Fortunately, the way the trap was set up, it was set to go off in the opposite direction of her nose, but I think these guys are so quick that she still would've escaped unscathed if it had been set up the opposite direction.

It really cracked me up. She's not supposed to mess with any food anywhere, and she's pretty good about it, but peanut butter is so high value, I guess it just was too much of a temptation. What a great little training experience. I couldn't have set it up better if I'd intended it  .

She ended up deciding to go into the front room and lie on her rug and gnaw on her antler while I finished my chores :D . (Usually, she's right there for every part of the process....)

So, any unexpected environmental training experiences to share?
