I was goofing off looking at pictures of Hearding breeds and came up on this one. Not that I have heard of every breed but never heard of this one. Such a beautiful dog!!!!
Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.
Tell us about yourself: Had a GSD, am getting a DS puppy in a few weeks. Compete in agility, obedience, and cross train in tons of stuff. Found out about this site from the DS Rescue yahoo list.
I wonder how they differ from the white GSDs you see in this country...

The White Shepherd Dog emerged from white coat lines of the German Shepherd Dog. The White Shepherd breed was officially recognized by the United Kennel Club on April 14, 1999. It was awarded provisional recognition as a breed by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale on November 26, 2002 as the Berger Blanc Suisse. Provisional was changed to official recognition on July 5, 2011 and the Berger Blanc Suisse breed is eligible for CACIB as of July 6, 2011.

The front half looks like a white DS, the back looks like a white GS. Very neat looking.

Since white is a disqualifying color, the owners of white GSDs changed their names and started their own breed clubs and breeding programs. Well, at least that's the simple answer. I see a lot of them at UKC conformation shows.
Tell us about yourself: My name is Katrina, I have 1 dutch shepherd name Merlin. He is a handful and keeps things in our house very interesting and fun :)
Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind. Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32. Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

I also saw alot of these dogs at ARBA shows quite awhile ago, sorry to say most of them were much better than most of the GSD population at that time. GSD being my first love---I just want to cry at watching them now.

OK, so we're talking about the same breed, basically, with different names in different countries, kind of like GSD vs. Alsatian .
Thanks, guys!

Overhere they are SO popular Thing is...they have a name not to be very assertive...nice way of saying...many will wet their pants (fur for almost anything, many times they are nervous, insecure, act suddenly out of fear. I also know a "good" one with nice charachter, but I know lots who have very poor charachter But hey, people like the colour, so there is money to be made...that never helped a breed.

I know what you mean. I have only known one white GSD that was a very cool dog and also, very beautiful, back in Cincinnati. The rest of them I've met have been pretty sorry creatures, and their heads are so skinny!

I would have to agree! I do think the white shepherds are beautiful! However, I also agree that they seem to posses weak nerves. A trait I find embarrassing in a breed that is supposed to be a working animal.
