Found lovely young male...

Post by Erin17 »

Hi folks....

Wondering if anyone is missing a lovely young approx 1-2 yr old male....found in the Durham region in rural area....I fear he was left abandoned...as a family was evicted and I think this dog might have belonged to them.
:orange:
He has some training...high energy...and house broke....it took me hours to catch this dog...and now he won't even leave my property.

If his owners cannot be located...can anyone help me locate a foster home for him....he isn't keen on men...does prefer women....is good with other dogs if they aren't aggressive....thinks horses are fun to chase...loves to play...might be too much for anyone with young children as when excited he nips...

He has been with me 24 hours and honestly....i am not familiar with the bred...but I just love this  boy...problem is I have 3 dogs and one is not rather aggressive towards him....anyways...if you all could help me out... Sure would be grateful....

Thank you.

Hi there.
I'm so glad you found the forum and thank you for rescuing the dog. I think pictures would be needed for a positive ID. For rescue info, contact the North American Dutch Shepherd Rescue, specifically Trudy Donais at Trudy@dutchshepherdrescue.org.

Thank you so much for the info....I have photos of him....should someone be looking then I would think that they could verify that they own him. He has a few marks and scars....easy to identify.

It took me days...and several hours one night in the dark to get him to trust me enough to take food from me....he was staring....after 3 hours or so in the wet and cold....he came home with me and hasnt attempted to leave my place although he has free will.....

Any info....sources etc....appreciated....

If someone lost their dog and is looking for him, you can post the pictures, but withold some info that only the owner would know. But to help him find his way home, you would need more than this list and it would help if you post his pictures (not just keep them for owner verification purposes).
Did you post him on your local shelters list (tell them you are fostering him) and on craigslist for your region under lost and found as well as pets? Did you put up 'found' posters in your neighborhood petsMart, grocery store bulletin board, and (though not always legal) major intersections in town?

Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

Have you called your local animal shelter, police dept., or vet's offices to see if anyone reported him as lost? Check your local newspapers lost and found? The police may be interested if he was abandoned.
