My daughter was at a party right next to the park, so my son and the girls decided to hike. Sadies recall is really good but I still dont trust her so she is on the long line. We went on a trail alongside the lake, we got to a nice point to go in, Sadie went right in with Thalie, I figured , well, we are all here I can drop the rope. They swam a bit, I didnt want them in too long because its still chilly. Time to go on.... and Sadie wont come out.
She does this thing, totally my fault for not stopping her when she was a pup, she grabs the rope and goes backwards to play tug. We all thought it was cute so we would grab the rope and play tug. Now, she still grabs the rope and goes backward to play. She will down and drop it, but thats on land :duh:
She will not come, she is having a good time with the rope in her mouth and barking at us, Its way to cold to go in and get her, yes I have done that before. :yernuts:
I break out the food, Nope, she dosnt have much food drive. I walk down the path, she always follows, but she followed IN the water. So i figured Id go straigh up the trail directly away from the lake, she barked at us bud wouldnt come out. At one point, she did, so I, in a happy voice, yelled "couche" she looked at me and ran back in the water. So back down we went. We threw rocks for Thalie to go in and play so Sadie would follow, Back and forth along the water she went, never close enough to grab the rope, Finnaly, I had a stick and looped the rope. Got them out, they were both soaked and cold. We went to a sunny spot and ran around there so they could warm up and dry.

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

Spring Fever? I think Lyric has a touch of it too! They seem just as happy as us to be back outside after the winter, and be a bit naughty.
You might have tried having Thalie "retrieve" the lead for you.

Oh yeah, I thought of that, my( small) brain was searching for every bit of knowledge. I did tell Thalie to
"Apport" but she didnt understand I wanted her to get the lead.
