- Tell us about yourself: 40 something mom of 3 sons, 2 living....mother of one beagle girl, Puddles age 9 and our yet to be determined "shepherd" type girl Beta, age 2. Beta was rescued from an area no-kill shelter and was assumed to be a GSD/Greyhound mix, perhaps? I sure cannot find anything greyhound about the girl, sought out Brindle Shepherds and came across the DS, and began to wonder.....she is the absolute best dog anyone could want.

I LOVE the pic of Zodiac, although I'm not sure how "hip" the 60's look is, lol BUT, I guess everything tends to come back around? Maybe this will start it back up again. ...and I would pay to see Diesel in some skinny-jeans. I totally lolled thinking about that one.....I gotta start playing dress up with Beta, but in the meantime, please enjoy the pics of my sweet and beloved (not to mention very F A T )beagle, Monty, who passed away last August at age 11. He died after a recurrence of thyroid carcinoma. He was THE cutest and coolest ever and we miss his fat self.We got Beta about a month after losing Monty.

- Tell us about yourself: I was introduced to the Dutch Shepherd breed during my time as an Army veterinary technician working with Military Working Dogs. I fell in love with the breed and by pure chance happened to meet a DS in a local rescue who was a police K9 washout and was up for adoption. We adopted Zodiac right away and she has been an important part of our family ever since. We currently compete in Rally-Obedience and participate in Agility.

60's look? Maybe I'm just too young to see it but those are all modern hipster accessories Zodiac is wearing, mostly from Hot Topic which is a store hipsters like to shop in. She is dressed in genuine hipster items, lol.lisaanne wrote:I LOVE the pic of Zodiac, although I'm not sure how "hip" the 60's look is, lol

- Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.

Re: May 2012 - Hipster
Awww now, dont go pickin' on the old Hippies (I was one back in the day)
No, seriously. My boyfriend then tried to get me to hop freight trains with them from here in Louisiana to Woodstock in '69. They went but my Dad, well, just say I didnt go. I need to look at the Hipster definition better, does it mean whatever is 'hip' for now but just old people trying to do it or is it anyone any age trying to look like a Hippie? Ok, my old mind is confused.

Re: May 2012 - Hipster
The most common phrase used to describe/make fun of hipsters is the line "I liked it before it was cool", representing the fact that hipsters typically favor independent/underground forms of expression and reject more popular forms. They're like a less-edgy form of punk and are generally disliked by other subcultures because of their lack of authenticity and willingness to abandon something they like (i.e. a band) as soon as it becomes popular. Here's the definition from wikipedia which, to me, definitely describes the hipsters I know:
"Hipster (also referred to as scenesters) is a term frequently used to refer to a subculture of young, recently settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers. Usage of the term reappeared in the 1990s and persists to the present. The subculture is associated with independent music, a varied non-mainstream fashion sensibility, and alternative lifestyles. Interests in media would include independent film, magazines such as Vice and Clash, and websites like Pitchfork Media".

I live close enough to Portland the hipster capitol of the world so I will take Remington downtown and find some hipsters to pose in a photo with him to help clarify.

Re: May 2012 - Hipster
Seems to be a difficult one this month.
How about one for the best dog movie remake? Like when Linda Hamilton drives off with a Wrangler Renegade with a GSD in the back seat and a gun laying on the passenger seat in Terminator. Or the 2 Malinois on plane wings in The Breed. Or a nice "shoe lace" drooling pic like Hooch in Turner & Hooch. Or laying in a beach chair with sunglasses like the Huskies in Snow Dogs (this is reserved for Thalie). Or like "on my signal - unleash hell" - Russell Crow in Gladiator. Or driving in a cabrio through a car wash like GSD in K9 with James Belushi. Sorry, I'm getting carried away.............

I am trying to find a pair of those black framed glasses. Maybe I will just ask the next hipster I see to lend me theirs.

- Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences. - Location: Victoria BC
