Two Drops of Kimba blood

There is a Prof at U of Ky who might consider breeding her Dutch again. This matters to me because her dog is one of the very few remaining intact that is a grand daughter of Kimba. I sure hope that she does and will put me on her waiting list! A friend is going to do a working seminar there in Sept. and will talk to her then. Can't wait to hear. She was bred once before, but absorbed the litter. I had heard of this in GSDs, but not Dutches. I guess this is to say I can't survive without just two more drops of Kimba blood in my life! I do still have a son, but he's 12. The red rescue is 5. Ft. Wayne, IN PD K-9 unit no longer has a breeding program, so I was about frantic. The friend is wanting one also--he's with Ft. Wayne. Can't wait to learn who the Prof. is. One can never have too many Dutch-buddies. Just had to share the hopeful joy.

Congratulations. I understand that mindset completely! I wanted desperately to buy a Willow nephew just because he was related. I now have the opportunity to work a Willow son, and I am so excited. He's 8 and was retired early from him K9 career, so now he's here with me to do sport work. I think so many of us fall in love with out first (and second) Dutch Shepherd and think of them as the epitome of the breed.

Just a side note, Willow did absorb her third litter. She had lots on ultrasound at about 28 days. Then nothing on x-ray at 53 days. I was disappointed, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Hi Christie, and thanks! She was just such a smart little devil! Her son is much the same, more so as he gets older. I may have to get in touch once I know for certain it will be happening. Long drive from here!

I hope it works out for you Sharon. Some dogs are indeed special and we try to keep at least a little part of them around.

I have been there too. Yaska's first litter to Arras was no problem. But her second planned mating to him did not take, or so we thought. Then another try with another male, nada. I started checking progesterone then and found out that it dropped mid term and absorbed the babies. Next time, I kept it checked and on 9-11-2001 I was in my vets office with her for a progesterone shot after I had found out the evening before that she was dropping again, a week and a half prior to due date. (not viable yet) The babies made it and for some reason I never forgot where I was when the office manager came into the room that the vet and I were in and told us what happened.
