Facebook page.At 6 months this month Vader is doing great. He has blended in and fits our family remarkably well. He has a fantastic personality and very high drive to train, climb and meet new people. He loves toys, is incredibly intelligent and has a very high prey drive which we are working on containing around things that move such as mountain bikers and joggers. (He bit a biker on the butt recently. He just cant stand them moving quickly away. I am going to make a separate post about how to best deal with that quickly.)
Its funny how much different he is from Jake, my 9 year old GSD. Jake prefers to be outdoors in the igloo or if in the house, he hangs out in the next room. Vader on the other hand, wants to be with us in the house and in the same room all the time.
He needs a lot of exercise and is getting it. We are doing a lot of night hiking off leash due to the shorter days. With the right equipment such as headlights, flashlights and technical clothing, even with the temps below freezing night hiking is a blast! Kind of eerie out there alone at night however.
We have been running into a lot of deer which both dogs love to chase away in the hills. Vader is really rock solid now on his recall. even when in full chase he will hit the brakes pretty hard and come running back when I give the special whistle.
He seems to improve and become even more intuitive each day. I can only imagine what the next 6 months will bring.
He is a very muscular 57 lbs now at 6.5 months of age.

- Tell us about yourself: My name is Tory. I am a land investor and realtor in Draper, Utah. I have a 9 year old male GSD named Jake who is a fantastic dog, but suffers from hip and eye problems that now prevent him from being as active as I would like.
My home is located at the base of a canyon that provides tons of hiking and mountain biking trails. I have been researching Mallinios and Dutch Shepherds for several years and decided a long time ago that one day I would get one. I am happy to report that I was recently able to adopt an 8 week old male Dutch Shepherd (now 12 weeks old) named Ace (Flying Utah ACE). He is full of piss and vinegar which is what I love about him. - Tell us about yourself: Artist, Mother, Equestrienne, Educator, Homesteader wannabe, dog-lover. Not counting my current DS, I have had 2 GSDs and 3 rescued mixed-breeds. All of these dogs were rescues, except for my childhood GSD, who was a gift from my parents when I was 7, and my current DS who I bartered artwork for from the breeder. Maiyou, one of my current dogs, is a Pitbull/New Guinea Singing Dog of 13 years old. Still very active and "Young" in nature. I now also have a DS named Mokume, (pronounced "Moh-koo-meh") or "Moko" for short. Newest member of our pack is Freyja, a random mixed hound I rescued during a horseback trip in the middle of a state forest.
