Radar's First Time On The Boat

I already knew that Radar loved to swim, but I wasn't sure if he was ready to go out on the boat.

He was a little nervous at first, but he really took to it well and had a great time in the process. It's the first time we've really been able to wear him out...

He was great chasing down the flying disk, but he doesn't bring it back so well. He'd rather play tug.

Tell us about yourself: My name is Tory. I am a land investor and realtor in Draper, Utah. I have a 9 year old male GSD named Jake who is a fantastic dog, but suffers from hip and eye problems that now prevent him from being as active as I would like.

My home is located at the base of a canyon that provides tons of hiking and mountain biking trails. I have been researching Mallinios and Dutch Shepherds for several years and decided a long time ago that one day I would get one. I am happy to report that I was recently able to adopt an 8 week old male Dutch Shepherd (now 12 weeks old) named Ace (Flying Utah ACE). He is full of piss and vinegar which is what I love about him. Looking forward to helping him become the best he can possibly be which I know will be incredible. Looking forward to the journy.

Great pictures! It looks like summer there. One thing I have not yet been able to do is get my DS into some water as it has been too cold. I hope he likes it as much as yours does.

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

Thanks everyone. I've been waiting for the water temp. to raise up a little, but yesterday was my last Monday off for a while. I wanted to take him when there's less traffic on the water for his first time. It was really nice to have that little stretch of beach all to ourselves.

Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. yes, great picks; great dog. thanks for posting all that - it is so great to see up-dates on Radar.
to my amazement, my almost 10-11 month old Sakima has not waited for warmer weather to go for full-fledged swims in the ocean bay here at the end of long island, ny. in fact, he has gone on long goose-catching swims deep out into bay on multiple low-30's days. a couple months ago, he would only run along the water's edge as his buddy Xander went romping wildly through the water [ tho never swimming ]. the coming warming of the waters should be a major positive surprise for him. can hardly wait to see what he does then!

Tell us about yourself: Artist, Mother, Equestrienne, Educator, Homesteader wannabe, dog-lover. Not counting my current DS, I have had 2 GSDs and 3 rescued mixed-breeds. All of these dogs were rescues, except for my childhood GSD, who was a gift from my parents when I was 7, and my current DS who I bartered artwork for from the breeder. Maiyou, one of my current dogs, is a Pitbull/New Guinea Singing Dog of 13 years old. Still very active and "Young" in nature. I now also have a DS named Mokume, (pronounced "Moh-koo-meh") or "Moko" for short. Newest member of our pack is Freyja, a random mixed hound I rescued during a horseback trip in the middle of a state forest.

I agree! Fabulous photo-story!

I, too, am looking forward to warmer weather, eager to see if Moko will take to swimming as enthusiastically as I think he will. We live right near a multitude of river/creek spots and lakes. Already, he loves splashing in the shallows by the creek and bobbing for ice-chunks, so far he's worked his way in to his shoulders, icy-coldness seeming to bother him little. I thought spring was well on its way, we had a good week or so of 40s and 50s weather, but then yesterday we had a snow-day, home from school and everything is looking very ski-resort-postcard-ey. As we say up here, "Don't like our weather? Just wait 5 minutes..." :lol: These wonderful beach photos are making me twitchy for our own warmer weather to arrive! :) I love how happy Radar looks!

Tell us about yourself: I have a 12 week old dutch shepherd that my trainer got for me to train in schutzhund. This is my 1st dutch shepherd, I have always had german shepherds. Currently, I have 4 dogs.

These are some excellent pictures of a very photogenic guy! I love the wave chasing! It reminded me of yesterday when Rorhin found some loose dirt and decided for some reason that was just really something to get excited about and really needing to be played with and rearranged! Thanks for sharing the laughs!

And I had no idea the water is so clear there! It must be beautiful! Good for all of you!

Looks like a perfect day... where are the pictures taken? Looks like your pup is enjoying himself! I have yet to take my Kodi out on my boat. I have a feeling he will not enjoy the ride. Waiting for a nice flat day to see how he does.

That's Elliot Key just South of Sands Cut on the Bay side. I too was worried about Radar on the boat - that's one reason I took him on a weekday when I knew there would be less people on the water and at the boat ramp.

Radar passed with flying colors and seemed to enjoy the ride as much as the romp on the beach. My old lab used to want to jump in the water right away, and my old GSD mix would try to hide under our legs.

During the ride, he held his head up and forward like he was flying. It looked like he had a big old smile on his face. When we pulled up to the beach, Radar focused on me like he was asking permission to enter the water.

My older dogs used to need assistance back into the boat - even when they were younger. Not Radar. He jumped out of the water and onto the deck like a porpoise.

Thats so funny, I go to Elliot all the time. That's awesome how well Radar did. Looks like you guys will have a fun summer on the water. My boyfriends lab has been out with us and we have to hold him the whole time because were afraid hes going to jump out of the boat while its moving. I still haven't decided if he is really brave or just really dumb. :yernuts:

Tell us about yourself: What can I say, I'm a nerd. I love anime, video games and sci-fi. While I do enjoy rotting my brain in front of my TV I never pass up a chance to take my dogs to the river, a walk around town or pretty much anywhere that allows them lol. I just bought my first house with my boyfriend and we own 3 cats (Jack, Appa and Hiro) and two dogs (Luna and Ronin.)

Cute! You have such a handsome boy and he sure looks like he loves the water! My pup just stands in it up to his chest and whines until I come back to shore lol. I bet that water feels awesome in this heat though!
