Here is a recent picture of our gang. From left to right: Kanaloa ("Lo"), Kapua (Kah-pu-ah), Ku and Kane (Kah-nay). Front and center is Alex, The General of The Dutch Army. Yes, he is the head honcho around here, regardless of being over 14 years old and totally blind since age 6.
The most recent additions:
Kanaloa, who was pulled from a Kansas City shelter in Sept. 2012. He had been seized due to starvation and neglect. This boy had the cards stacked against him, but luckily there was a shelter manager who had a Mal and understood that he needed an experienced home and was willing to release him to NADSR. The progress that he has made is incredible.
Kapua was bred and raised in the Netherlands to be a working police dog. It's a long story as to how she found her way to America and us (through NADSR) but she joined our family in April of this year and is almost 14 months old. She has an incredible amount of athleticism and drive and is very sweet and loving.
All of the DS compete in DockDogs and all are starting in mondioring. Kane also began an agility foundation class so we will see where that goes.
We can't imagine our lives without any of them and they are all a testament to the potential of rescue dogs everywhere.
