Tell us about yourself: New DS owners. My family and I just adopted two shepherds (male and female) from a local shelter. We weren't looking for a DS but so glad we found them.

New addition

Post by scottmoore_sc »

I have two DS's. A male that is 4 and a female that is 1.5. They are very obedient and near perfect dogs. Extremely affectionate but naturally quite protective of our house and family. Recently I added a third k9 member out of necessity. My father's health has brought him to the point where he is struggling to properly take care of their beloved chocolate lab (4 years old.) We have a large fenced yard so I took him in. The three are getting along "okay." Feeding time is pretty rough. It seems like they get along fine but then have tense moments and will have a 3-4 second "fight" and then they go back on their way. It's only been a few days and I know it will take time but I'd really like to make this work. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tell us about yourself: A dog lover living in Florida. I am originally from The Netherlands. Had dogs all my life, mostly working dogs. Last one was a GSD I trained for narcotic detection. I have recently gotten my first DS, Ranger. I also have 2 Danish/Swedish farmdogs.

Can you give us more details of the issues at feeding time, and also what is happening with the "fights"?

Here is a great article on pack integrations. I would highly suggestion separation during feeding. If you have crates, use them for feeding time.
