Tell us about yourself: I've had Belgian Malinois for years at my folks. I just got married, and a friend of mine who does search and rescue, had been keeping an eye out for Mali puppies for me. He came across a 9 month old Dutch Shepherd female pup who needed a home. She doesn't have the nerves to do the search and rescue she was intended for, but is perfect pet material. She's enough of a challenge to be alot of fun :)

Rufus update- Picture heavy

Post by Tappy4me »

First of all, Rufus was weighed a few days ago at the shelter before getting neutered...he's a whopping 79.5 lbs at 7 months old.

Secondly, here's some pictures of him playing in the little bit of snow we got the other day.

In loving memory of Maiya, the best Dutch Shepherd. 2012-2013. At 14 months old, you had yet to live life to it's fullest. You touched our lives and will never be forgotten.

We are just rolling with mastiff mix...We have no idea. He most resembles an Anatolian Shepherd, but brindles are more on the uncommon side and there are a few breeders in the area we got him... While he does fit alot of that breed description, they just aren't very common dogs to have as mixes or pure in the shelters.

He's a big, bold, handsome (albeit a bit walleyed)fella that we just love. :D He has alot of growing left to do.

We keep looking at him thinking he looks like an adult...but then I capture photos of him in motion, and he's still completely a gangly puppy. His head seems to grow every day. He is such a powerful fella, but is a gentle giant and is quite protective over our yard. Intimidating fella, I tell you!

The longer we have him, the more we miss Maiya. She and him would have been such fun... I think down the road we will be getting either another Dutch or a Mal to give Rufus another big dog to play with.

Tell us about yourself: Howdy,
We are a family of rescues, (yeah, me included), in Southern California. My wife and I currently have two dogs, a Golden Retriever/ GSD mix by the name of Morgan, and our DS mix(?), Dinga Roo. We had never even heard of a Dutch Shepherd before until we were stalked by this nice lady in the pet store who asked us if Roo was a DS. Dang if that lady wasn't on to something. I just found this site, so here we are....

I'm still catching up here, (ain't probably gonna happen, but I try).
Rufus is becoming quite the handsome young man. Actually awesome would be a good word.
Kevin, Debby,
Dinga Roo (DS mix), John's Goddaughter and Tyson's twin,
and Morgan too (Retriever/GSD mix).
Loving memories of our GSD Charly who passed at 17 years. (4/18/13).

ANother update without making another thread...

Tried getting a couple pics of Ruf and me today. It didn't work well! He showered me in kisses instead.
