Will her ears stand up on her own?

This is Moagli, she's 8 weeks old and a mix of dutch and German shepherd. Her dads ears(the GS) has floppy ears but her mom's stand up fine. Is there any hope or should i prop them myself when she is 5 months?

DS ears usually do quite well on their own given time. The ears standing erect aren't near as important as other developments while they grow (as in, this is the body's point-of-view). I don't know what you could expect with a floppy-earred father, and don't know if the genetic experts on this board could even tell you the odds.

If you do a search for ears (or standing ears, erect ears, floppy ears, or some other combination) you'll find there are LOTS of posts about this.

But really, at this age, I think all you need to do is enjoy laughing at those big floppy things. If they come up, they come up. Or maybe only one will. Maybe one or both will end up helicopter ears. They'll just make her that much more Moaglie-ish...................who, by the way, is very, very cute.

I worried about Xander's ear as well. I did all kinds of crazy stuff to keep them up. And looking back none of it probably mattered. They finally stayed up at around 9 1/2 months. But either way that is one cute pup!

Generally speaking the ears will do what they want when they want. As long as she's getting a good diet and safe exercise it doesn't matter.

Do you have her lines/pedigree? Floppy ear GSD aren't too common so I'm wondering if there's something else mixed in there too. If it's just a phenotype due to damage it won't be passed. If it's generic chances just went up. But honestly at 8 weeks it would be the last thing I'd be worried about, I'd be having a blast with her!!!

Thanks guys! I really hope they stand up but you're all right I've got plenty other things to enjoy and worry about! She gets plenty of excercise and bites everything in her path!

Hendrix, I am almost certain her dad was mixed with GS and something else but his owner told me he was pure bred
