I took Grendel to Las Vegas and San Diego, and despite her less than perfect conduct, she got "oohs" and "aaahs" all over the place. Everywhere we go people comment on how pretty she is. I can't disagree!
Man, I see how being good looking really makes people more forgiving of bad behavior! Must be nice.

- Tell us about yourself: I love Shepherds- German, Dutch and Belgian. I recently lost my 16.5 y/o GSD mix and was hoping to find a GSD or DS mix. I totally lucked out in finding Grendel, a DS/GSD mix at 9.5 weeks old. She was filthy and flea-ridden, but still the cutest, craziest thing ever. She's going to live up to her name! First dog I've had that I've actually seen the parents and definitely know what she is!

Haha! Thanks! One thing, though- is she looking a little too heavy around the middle? The pics kind of look that way, and being with her nearly 24/7, I'm not sure if I can see things like that.

Oh man. I just had to do a family collage.
Grendel's only about 4 months in the photo, but it seemed the most fitting.

- Tell us about yourself: Over the past 25 years I shared my life with a Rott, two Akitas, and a Shepherd/Husky mix. I now have my first Dutch Shepherd. Lexi was born in early September 2014. She is great in so many different ways but I could use advice from some been there done that DS owners.

Who all is in the family photo? How old is Grendel? I thought her weight looked great. I had a trainer say Lexi was chunky when she was around 4 months old . Looking back at the photos, she probably was but I didn't worry about it and when she grew in height it balanced out. Vet says her weight is perfect.

Mom is on top (DS), dad is on bottom (GSD), Grendel is the one mugging for the pic.
Honestly, I kind of wonder about her mom's background- her head looks really round for a DS (to me), though I'm not sure how much of that is an illusion from the very rounded mask. Grendel has a very pointy face with almost no chin, but her mask makes her head look rounder than it actually is. May be that the mom had some pit in her background, though I've no idea and really don't care. Grendel certainly has the athleticism and insanity of the DS breed. I wish I could let her jump like she wants to, but I know she's too young. I have taught her to open doors (inward) for me. I probably shouldn't teach her how to open the gate latch, but may do so when she's more reliable.
Grendel is now approaching 5.5 months. And still looks so tiny to me
As for her weight, I swear she changes form daily. Today she looks thin and extra leggy. Maybe she was just bloated the other day!

Lexi is 1 1/2 yrs old I see puppy and think oh how cute ... I want a puppy. Then I think back to Lexi young puppy days and think, what am I crazy! Maybe when I retire. Lexi still has a lot of puppy in her still.
